Abandoned island, which is patrolled by Japanese police in boats 24-7. And you don't want to mess with Japanese cops.

No, i don't believe i would want to mess with Japanese Cops to try and get to an abandoned Island, but it looks cool.

Impossible. Will not happen. Don't even dream about it. Nada. Niet. You cannot infiltrate Pripyat. Nada. Doing so would be entering using ninja skills and some invisible suit in the middle of the very radioactive woods, far from the control stations for the deadzone, while all the police & staff from the control posts are peeing at the same time. WILL.NOT.HAPPEN. And even if you WOULD get through the security checkup points without being seen (which I doubt is possible), you'd still have 30 km to walk to get to Pripyat. You'd get caught before even seeing the town far away at the horizon. Maybe you thought about entering the death zone with a motorcycle??? All that without being noticed??? Forget it. WILL.NOT.HAPPEN. Never. Niet. Nada.

Anyway, why would you want to do that? Commit radioactive suicide???

And do you really want to mess with the Ukrainian police? Hmmm.

maZe, you are right. I only visited the zone on an official tour, but the controls are serious. I was told that security got much tighter after 9/11. Before that, the idea was to protect people from the zone. Now it's to protect the zone from people.

So, to all you wannabee UE explorers, don't bother. Especially after the graffiti assholes http://chernobyl.i...host_town_graffiti, don't even dream of doing any kind of independent exploration. BTW, I saw sone of the graffiti. Most of it is juvenile. I didn't get it.

The radiation settled in places, my understanding is that in Pripyat you can be in a hallway and be fine but go into a stairwell and the RADS are enough to kill you in minutes.

A Finnish explorer I know from our own UE forum hitchhiked to Chernobyl from Kiev recently. If I understood correctly, she had to bribe someone with 20 euros to get through the last mile to Pripyat, but otherwise the trip was free of charge and went without interruptions. Though she had no dosimeter with her, she doesn't have green afterglow either.

According to her own words, she lacks the healthy instinct of self preservation. I agree.

Looks like a cheap vacation spot to me. Bring your counter(s), take your iodine, and make sure your film doesn't get irradiated! Another reason to go digital.

That place is wild, DAMN!
