Question about process

Why does everything that Av doesn't agree with get deleted or locked? Isn't this a place of free speech?

Not really, this is Av's private forum. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way at all. It just is the way it is.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

Free speech does not exist on this website, nor 99% of any online medium (Forums, interactive games, web hosting, IRC, etc). There is always a "terms of service" or rules page which documents what is allowed and what is not allowed.

This is more directed at the excessive amount of deleted posts when it is something you dont agree with, or said by someone you dont agree with.

So can you explain why it seems people that haven't been overly agreeing with you have had their posts mysteriously disapear?

The only posts that have been deleted are the ones that violate the rules (ie, in which nasty words are thrown about or whatever). Of those, I have only seen one that was deleted.

I suggest you ditch this false impression that you can insult anyone you want on this website, and realize that we will not tolerate violations of our Terms of Service (which you agreed to when you signed up on this website). You can find a link to the ToS on the bottom of every page of UER.

As for all the locks, this is not a discussion section. Forum Issues is a section specifically for bringing up, dealing with, and then closing issues regarding the forum. Once the issue is closed, the thread is locked. If you want to have a lengthy discussion about dictatorship, the best place to do it would be "Other", or not on this website, since it has nothing to do with UE.

this is a stupid post in my opinion. i think that the fact that theres more locked than not threads in the forum issues page shows that complainers are the real forum issue. people need to just not make such a fuss about how the owner of this site wants to make the rules

So why don't you start your own UE site and let "free speech" reign supreme?

When an entire thread is deleted, there is no such respectful Pm from anyone.

And not every PM from a mod, on a deleted post is respectful either.

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

It is Av's site and you do have to respect his wishes. If you do not, you may leave or be politely (or not so politely) asked to leave. You may voice your opinion on a subject, but be aware that this opinion is subject to censorship and/or deletion.

Av's site, Av's rules. Respect them or leave. Simple. I am suprised that half of what is said here is allowed to be read. Sometimes I wonder why I have not been banned.

Anyway, that is the way it. Take it or leave it.

I seem to recall a very well written and professional post by Kowalski which layed out some of the things new moderators should expect. It soon dissappeared. While there were some rather juvenile replys from myself and others, using those as an excuse to 1984 the original thread would have been a rather poor excuse.

I also recall quite a few threads being locked when moderation of off topic posts would have been more in line with standard operating procedure, and some deletions where locking would have been the norm.

There are a few cases where the ToS get bent or ignored, but it's at the Administrator's sole discretion.

Very good. You've hit the hammer on the head. The Administrator makes the final decision, and that's because he's the Administrator.

Such as deciding that this thread is pointless, since it's rehashing what's just been said a million times before.

Locked. And the next thread about this idiot topic will be deleted too.
