why do some people receive full membership before others?

I understand ive only been here for 15 days. This is not about my membership. I see lots of people who are waiting for full membership, some who post about it and have been waiting for months. Someone wanna explain WTF this is?

http://www.uer.ca/...asp?posterid=14640
A whole whopping 6 posts, joined 5 days before me and already has full status. Compare the quality and content of my posts with that user. If there is a member who hasnt been here longer than a month that should get full status, I sure deserve it over said user. But its not about my membership. Ive only been here 15 days, enjoy the site so much ive donated, and already been out on a run with full members. I seen plenty of other users who have done/given more than i have. Blasphemy.

http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&posterid=13954
And this one. A whole whopping 14 posts of what? Theres nothing valuable coming from that side of the keyboard. I think this member just got in because someone they know with access. Same with the user above.

Ive read about and come to understand the system in use here. If its so perfect, how do things like this happen? Is full member status even worth it? Whats on the other side? The main thing im looking foward to, is adding my location info to the DB.

Humor me. My flame suit is on for those keyboard warriors.

You answered your own question.

I've recommended people for full access on their first day because I knew them personally.

For those people, they're lucky. For people who don't know a full member personally, they just have to do their time in the trenches.

It sucks, sure, but it's the way it goes.

While I think you have a stronger example in the second user than the first, I won't flame you. You raise some very good points about the fairness of the membership system.

Thats the answer i was looking for. I understand fully. Thanks for clearing that up. If it works, why change it.

The Full Member system is very fair, much more so than most websites.

There is a lot more going on behind the scenes that you don't know about. Mods look at a lot more than just number of posts and join date. The biggest factor is recommendations.

If a person who is very well known and an established UER member says "This person is my best friend, I trust him with my life", it's pretty much a guarantee that they will get full member access right away, even without a single post.

Compare our system to the systems used on more closed websites. For example, on another popular UE website Deggi5, the only way to gain access is to know a member. If you don't, you're SOL. This is a fine system, it works well.

On UER, we wanted to open the doors a little further. Anyone may apply for full membership, and if they don't know anyone else who can recommend them, we will judge them by their posts and their contributions. This system works very well, it's only downside is that it takes a long time.

So, before you complain about person X receiving full membership before you do, realize that there is a lot more going on "behind the scenes".

Excellent explanation. I think it was good that he asked, though. Good chance to clear it up for anybody else who might be wondering.

Thats exactly why i posted. I wasnt 100% clear as to what it took to become a full member, when i see some basic members who have contributed more to the forum than some full members. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'll admit, I'm one of the "lucky ones". I didn't apply for full membership. I was recommended by a long standing and respected member of this forum the second day I signed up. I'm glad you think my posts are crap, however. ;)

In any case, I hope you get that full membership you're so hoping for. Good luck.

It's much easier and faster to get full membership if you sit back, relax and enjoy the ride for a while instead of bitching and complaining about someone else's system that is indeed fair and well established.

Fair is in the eyes of the beholder. The system screens out a lot of people who shouldnt be here, but it also can easily bypassed, by "Hey I know this guy and hes cool." Got a person I know who does security for a living, and he use to rob from the houses he now protects.

Every system has its flaw just like deggi5.

Very true...I think that Av has a good point that this system allows for obtaining full member status either way -
-knowing someone or
-making a name for yourself, by yourself...

The latter takes more work, but not by much - just play the game, contribute and it'll come.

Whats that old saying, it's not what you know that counts, it's who you know? I'm happy to wait it out, i'm not even going to apply until like six months, i like this site and am happy to jump through hoops for access.

I have been recommended a few times and been denied a couple times. I have met the owner of the site and still have not received my status.

I consider myself lucky. After only a couple of months I had a meeting with a full member in my area( Jester ). Doubly lucky, he was a mod, so that afternoon I was a full member. Awesome!. N.
