|  | | | Hey AV, in light of the fact you have created a couple of new forums recently I have an idea for a new forum that might be useful.
A General Photography Forum would be a great place for people to post information on new cameras, ask others advice on equipment and also to post pictures that don't fit into any other forums but still might be of interest to everyone (like the Night Photography thread).
The "Other" forum is an ok place for them but since the traffic is fairly high in there, and people rarely read back more than a couple of pages of posts, a lot of stuff gets missed. For example Jolt just asked for advice on purchasing a new camera. I think this has been discussed two or three times in the past but those threads are long buried. The same goes for the "Photo Topic" threads that I like to start. It would be fun if they didn't march into oblivion so quickly so more people would be apt to post their stuff in them...
I don't want to start a herd of people asking for specific semi-off UE topic forums but I know this has been mentioned in one form or another in the past.
BTW AV, you did make the comment to me on one occasion that those who ask for something are more likely to receive it so I am asking.

I for one would be *very* against such a forum here, even though my primary interest is in photography. This site is an UE site, not one of the thousands of photography sites on the WWW. If people want photography-related advice they'd be much better off going to a site dedicated to photography where the participants actually know what they're talking about than a site like this... Just look at the "Manual Photography 101" thread, and then realize that most threads in a photo forum here are going to wind up like that one. The number of people who don't fully understand the concepts or terminology, or can't communicate the same clearly, outnumbers those that do.
There will be photography discussion, but dedicating an entire forum to confusion, misinformation, ignorant questions, and bragging about/badmouthing equipment is hardly worth it, IMO. Such a forum isn't going to foster intelligent conversation on it's subject, nor produce any new ideas, such as a forum on UE and media/public relations might.
But, hey, what do I know? I've only got two stars under my name.

| | | | Krenta... I think most of the posts would be pictures that members have taken that don't fit in other sections. Of course there will be some discussions about equipment but that goes on now. Currently photography posts end up in the "Other" forum. Creating a dedicated forum would just allow photo related posts to located in one place.

| | | | Krenta, I think your view about photographers here is a little misguided. Many UEers *are* professional photographers -- they really are good people to ask about photo advice.
Anyway, I've discussed it with the other forum admins, and they've agreed with this poll... so welcome your new photography section.

A section on photography equipment and techniques would be extremely useful (not everyone comes from an arts background and knows the ins and outs of cameras) but not useful if it fills up with silly posts about lens flares and overexposed film being polterghousts.
