"Got A Sec?"

Av, is this really the best way to make people full members?

I'm sure you have some system set up, but it just seems a little odd that I would have input on someone I don't know!!

Seems like you would want to make the requirements a little more than what they post on the forum.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Chuck

As it says in the window, the Got a Sec system is there for the following reasons:

1. To speed up the Full Member process
2. To let you, the members of the forum, help prune the new members
3. To make it a little easier for the moderator who processes the request.

Your comments are taken into account, but are not the deciding factor. It is still up to the mod who is handling the request to decide if the user should be granted Full Membership.

Most of them I have ignored, because these are people I don't know. I don't feel you can make a choice on if someone is trusted or not unless you've met them in real life, or talked to someone who has. The ones that are obvious (low post count, nothing contributed) I will strike against however.

Its not really an annoyance, if I don't have any opinion I just pass it on.

I don't mind this but when it pops up as you were reading a thread, or going to reply, like I was to this one, if you click on one of the options you get booted out to the forums page.

It might be helpful to keep you at the page you were on.

I go over the awaiting L3 request occasionally (although I have to admit I haven't done so in a while), but the problem for me is that I don't know most people on the list there...

You can try opening the links in a new window, or simply using your "Back" button.

I think it would be a lot better if after you click it, you would end up back on the page you were viewing, if this is possible. I've personally found that to be annoying that i end up off the page I just went to...

If it bothers you, click on the radio button "Quit bugging me". I presume it would stop the pop-ups coming to you...

I didn't feel it appropriate to click to ignore those, since I have to review them as a moderator and it's a good reminder that someone is waiting...

I didnt say "I" click on that radio button, but then I dont have a problem just bypassing the pop-ups. But it seems that there are people who are 'annoyed' by these...

I didn't say you did push that button. You've confused me, I'm going to go to a different thread now...

I don't feel like I should stop seeing these either. I don't know many, but I will strike/recommend those I know.

Well, I've looked at a few of them. Like Av says, what we say isn't the ultimate decision factor,if anything it just perhaps help them weed out the good and the bad a little.

If this feature was up while I was waiting for L3, I would have appreciated any help I could get, so I have no problem putting in my two cents.

can you add a "this person needs to get more involved on the forums first" type option? i don't mind saying yes or no to people but its hard to make a decision when they've only posted once.

Yes, use the "Strike" option and type that as the reason.

Seriously, we can do the work better if you tell us what you mean, instead of just clicking a button.

Works for me. Helps with the process and gives an insight from the rest of us members that could easily be missed.

I don't mind 'putting in a little time' for the Team as its only fair (I really want to donate but any money out right now is gonna kill me or starve my kidz) in return for what I've had out of this.

BONUS -

I'm probably going overboard, but I try to check out the pledge's personality beyond the uer site - - It's amazing what you can learn about some induh-viduals!

but then again,

Perhaps I really didn't want to know about his chicken fantasy. !!!

I think the got a sec thing is a good thought, even if it does not end up working out as planned. There is a spot on it that says you have no opinion on the person if you do not know them. So all is good in my books, and its the thought that counts I think
