What reason is there for any deletion? These threads don't violate any rules and offer good information and discussion. I sense that this is merely a grudge related to the implementation of the new trusted system. If you could just keep your pants on and let things get moving, I think that you will see you are getting into a big hissyfit without reason.

FYI: The remove link has been for mods' use only for a long time since it was abused while the forum was in it's infancy. I'm not sure why the link still shows up for non-mods.

Not a grudge, not a hissy fit. I simply am not comfortable with having the info I presented posted here.

Sorry, but forum rules state that posts may only be removed if they present personal details without permission.

Why, because the exact same people as before will be able to see it. I can see how if nothing changed in relation to your posts you would all of a sudden not be comfortable having them posted, I really can.

I am not panicking.
Let me explain my position. I am interested in the topic of urban exploration for what may be different reasons than you.

There is a professor in NYC that leads people on tours of the city pointing out those things that they would otherwise overlook - lamp posts, manhole covers, storm drains, etc... By pointing out the style of manufacture, age and what have you he gives people a greater appreciation of their surroundings, and how these seemingly unimportant details can give an understanding of the history and development of an area.

I have the same feeling about things. I have photographed the storm drains of Buffalo to show the age of the system in different areas of the city, to give information about the local foundries that cast them iron, etc. I have photographed manhole covers, cast iron building facades, abandoned buildings, medina sandstone carriage steps, 19th century brass sidewalk markers, etc.

I post all of this information freely because my interest is in disseminating the information as widely as possible in order to help engender in the general public a better appreciation of their surroundings.

I post information on abandoned buildings publicly so that casual observers, not just dedicated urban explorers, but anyone who stumbles across it might be exposed to something and change their perspective. In my experience it is obscurity that causes these places to decay and be damaged. In my city there are hundreds of property that are being destroyed because the owner is allowed to ignore them. In many cases the owner is the city government.

Already in more than one case we have been able to start the process of saving these places simply by posting the information on the net where people who would otherwise be unaware have come across the information almost by accident.

That is what I am about. That is what I do. When I posted information to this site it was with the understanding pretty much anyone interested would be able to access it with little effort. The only restrictions were valid email address and a simple demonstration of the understanding of decent behavior.

I can understand the motivation of some to keep information out of the hands of the general public, but that is simply not something I would ever choose to contribute to or participate in. It simply is not my way of doing things.

While some of the information I posted was perhaps in areas with different access requirements than some of the other information I posted, I look at the overall philosophy of the venue. I my personal philosophy simply doesn't coincide with that of this site.

I respect your decision to run your site as you see fit and to guide it in the way you choose, I simply ask that you respect my decision not to take part in that nor contribute to it, and respect my request to remove information that I provided when I perhaps mistakenly thought the guiding philosophy of this site was different than it now appears to be.

With regard to the rule about deleting posts, the posts in question do contain personal information about me, my name, my activities, etc. Those posts no longer have my permission to be here. In addition, we both know of course that that is NOT the only reason that posts have been deleted in the past.

So again, I simply request that you respect my decision and delete those threads or at least my posts in them, and then you will hear no more from me.

If your goal is indeed to diseminate the information then why would you have it be removed. Why not leave it up and let it reach some people. Not that you have the ultimate choice in this, but it just seems like juvenile spite saying "you don't let everyone read these so I won't let anyone!"

CCC: A noble cause no doubt, but I'm sure you must understand why this is happening. The internet is a very powerful means of communication. And as we all know with great power comes great responsibility. Sure the average Joe public can swing by the site and find these places now, but unfortunately so can Joe Arson and Joe Vandal. People on this site have at times placed their favourite locations here only to have them burnt to the ground within weeks, or closed up, or even just enhanced security. I'll be the first to admit that the new trust system is a little complicated, for now at least, but I feel that it's probably the best way to keep ne'erdowells away while still having these locations available for those of us who genuinely respect and admire them.

i understand and somewhat support the new trust system, but if its true that there is personal stuff in his posts then i think that you should delete them if you no longer have permission. but hey, what do i know? im a noob.
