I actually think the whole 'pay to have your name changed' isn't such a bad idea.
LiveJournal makes users pay a whopping 15 bucks US for a "rename token".
I think a nominal fee to change your name isn't a bad thing.
Can't afford it? Don't want to pay it?
Shoulda' thought of that before you changed your name!
I think a small paypal payment of 2 or 3 bucks is a great way to solve this.
It will stop the abuse of the system. It will pay for Av's time to go into the MySQL and change it. It will encourage users to be positive about changing their names.
(I know there will be lots of people on here that will turn into Chicken Little at the thought of paying a whopping two bucks or so... but they seem to bitch about anything that involves paying for anything that they think should be free.)

The thing is, when UER started, there were no rules, no mods, and not even a "delete post" feature.
All the rules and regulations we have now have arisen out of need, because someone abused the system and it became necessary. Just like stores today all have electronic inventory control tags on products because a small part of the population shoplifts.

That's true AV, and I do believe I agreed with that point of yours, that it arose out of need.
But I still find it rather hilarious, and ironic.
Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? Its a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural, 80 year old dudes with hardons. Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt. |
