AvChat doesn't work for me. I am behind a firewall with only ports 80 and whatever the ftp port is, open. I tried using a CGI based proxy, no luck. I tried a conventional proxy, still no luck. The chat window pops up and its says

"Trying to connect..."

and goes no further. I tried both versions.

help!

I suggest you disable your firewall.

Well, then you can't use AvChat from school. Sorry.

Yeah, won't work for me either. All I get is a screen that says I have been banned from "this chat".

If you want it *badly* then;

You <-> School Firewall <-> Home or Friends Computer Running* on Port 80 <-> AvChat

* - You have lots of options of what you want to run depending on what you want to do... The easiest would probably be to use a VNC server on Port 80 at home and run a VNC client at school. This way you can use your home computer as if you were sitting at it. Anything else is probably overdoing it for accessing a webchat .

Use TightVNC 1.3 dev5 (or later) with the mirror driver (if possible) for the following reasons:
1) It has an actual display mirroring driver so it uses *very* little CPU (2-4% on my 1GHz).
2) It has the highest-ratio lossless compression available.
3) Ability to do JPEG compression at various levels.
4) You can have it listen on any port.
5) It has a built-in system for file transfers.
6) It's the most customizable VNC server and client available.
