24 hour post edit lock

Hello! First of all i havent said this yet, but thanks for setting up this website, the location DB is really neat to look through and participate, and a place where people with this interesting hobby can talk and share. I havent contributed any money yet but that should come soon =)

Ok, for the topic.

Whats the reasoning behind the 24 hour edit post lock? Theres already a policy not to edit threads because you said something stupid or false etc... I think that would be enough to stop edit abuse?

I have 2 posts where i am missing a word and I cant change em! Its not that important really but has there been much abuse on this ? Im just curious

Yes, we've had several people go back and "modify" ALL of their old posts, going back months in some cases, and replacing them with nothing or junk content. It's a huge hassle to revert the edited posts later.

We decided that 24 hours was enough time to make small corrections. Any other important corrections, you can make a follow-up post, or possibly ask an admin/mod.

If enough people want it, I could create a feature that lets you "Add" content to your post, without letting you edit it.

Actually, that wouldn't be a bad idea. Ebay uses something like that. Once the auction has started, the seller can still add information to the listing, but it shows up in a separate box beneath the main description instead of letting people change anything in the listing. I would be in support of this if Av decided to pursue it.

It's a great idea! Av, you should really look into it.
