| | Guam and Australia... < on 10/16/2004 8:07 AM >
| | | I just added the locations of Guam and Saipan to the DB. They have appeared under Australia. This might cause John Howard some grief - they should be listed under Micronesia, or perhaps Oceania. Or even the US as they both looked after by the US Govt...

| | | According to a country listing that I acquired, those countries are in the continent of Australia. Last I heard, "micronesia", "oceania", and the "us" are not continents.

| | | Renaming Australia to: Australia & Pacific should do it, as now it does seem a bit silly to see under Australia for example the Guam and in the future perhaps some other Pacific islands?

| | | You are trying to set the locations up diffrently than the rest of the DB, make 2 entries for the two diffrent areas. And maybe one for the prison, that looked pretty neat. That would probably be the best way to go...
This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit. |

Indeed they are not! If continents are the top-level sort criteria, then where does 'Hawaii' fall? It is certainly not in 'North America', but it is in the same ocean as Guam, Saipan, Rota, Tinian. Hawaii is also a US-led possession, just like these others too (except it has 'statehood', just like some on these islands want for themselves too). They are certainly in the good ol' USofA tho:

| | | Look, I'm not the one who decides which countries are in which continents. I just get the list of countries from a public website. -av

Hehe - Funnily enough, it depends on how you define it... Technically, you're all right. There is no real definition to what is or isn't a continent... There are various "models" which define continents ranging from 4 continent models to 7 continent models, and there are even sometimes various models with the same number of continents but *different* continents... "The seven continent model is taught in parts of Western Europe and North America, while the six continent (combined Eurasia) model is also taught in North America and is the primary continent model used in scientific contexts. The six continent (combined Americas) model is commonly taught in Europe and South America. The five continent model is normally taught in the United Kingdom. The continents of the "five continents" model (as shown by the five Olympic Games flag rings) are speculated to be the five permamently populated continents (viewing Antarctica as only temporarily populated, and all the Americas as one)." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent
