Deleted posts query
< on 9/15/2004 6:57 PM >

I may be wrong, but weren't we supposed to get a notification of why a post gets deleted? I put something in the encyclopaedia, a term that's passed into common usage in Scottish Exploration, and a few people have asked about it. So I put a definition in the encyclopaedia. It's been deleted, with no reason given as to why.

Not going off on one here, just confused. Thought we were getting told about deletions...

Postings deleted from the encyclopedia, when deleted, do not get a notification sent to the poster. What was the content of the post? The Encyclopedia is going through a hefty clearance on non-UE related material.

Oh - if you mean the "bukkake" posting, I can tell you right now why it was deleted. While it might be used in Scotland as slang to mean something that is broken or otherwise messed up, in North America (and Japan, and many other places), it's meaning is something completely different (and pr0nographic).

On top of that, regularly used slang not specifically related to UE will be deleted from the encyclopedia.

It was the word "bukkake" which, while it has another rather unsavoury meaning, is commonly used by us in Scotland to mean something trashed or damaged beyond repair.

As in "That building's a no-go, it's bukkaked.

Jestering is not an offensive adult term. Yours is.

Not to us it isn't. It means something else entirely.

Anyway, the point I was making is that Crossfire said that "slang" terms shouldn't be in the encyclopaedia. I would consider "jestering" to be a slang term, only used by a handful of people. If htat warrants removal, then both my entry and this one should be removed.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people on the site are from Canada or the US.

"take your opinion and stick it"

I believe the common response to stuff like this is, "If something offends you and shouldn't be there, take it to PM".

All you had to do was ask me to remove my sig. But no, just go ahead and be rude.

And before you start, yeah, the sig probably was rude. I was in that kind of mood when I wrote it.

Since it offends, it's gone.

On the subject of the entry, if it offends, then forget it.

My point about "jestering" stil stands, though. I don't see how it should be there. Feel free to explain why, though.

Lightning,

What I said was...

regularly used slang not specifically related to UE will be deleted from the encyclopedia.

Read "not specifically related to UE". Your 'bukkake' entry was actually deleted on two accounts; one being that (though it may be a regularly used slang term in Scotland) it is a term relating to an offensive pr0norgraphic act (IMHO). The other reason is that it is not specifically related to UE, where 'jestering' is.

I hope this clears up the confusion.

Okay, fair enough. But how many people would actually need to know what it meant?

A handful? I don't see why it should be there.

Of course, I'll gladly bow to your superior wisdom...

It's about bloody time.

Point: "Bukkake" is a pr0nographic term, where as "Jestering" is not (much as he wishes it was)

Point: Though "a handful" (or, several dozens, if you're talking about the membership of this board) may not understand the term "jestering", it is still directly related to UE. "Bukkake" is not - as you stated in your own words in the aforementioned deleted encyc. entry.

Point: You're arrogant. Why should anyone do anything to help you out?

You know, I've often made the point that when you type something you can;t make out a tone of voice.

What you think is arrogant has merely been me confused by some entries.

Can I point out that I was the one labelled offesnive when I wasn;t ACTUALLY intedning to be?

Several people have asked us why we use the term I entered into the encyclopaedia. I thought it would be helpful to explain it.

It boils down to language difficulties. If you're in America, the word "Fanny" means your ass. Over here, it means something slightly more offensive, and could get you slapped by women. Same thing with "bukkake". Although it also means exactly what you thought it meant, it can also mean something else entirely. But it's not going in, so that's that. Point taken.

Now, I'll concede the argument to you. But I was never intending to sound arrogant. Not my intention at all. Sorry if it seemed like that.
