Bummer. I can relate though. Back the in the day I used to street race, and our state made it a felony to do anything (HUGE grey area) except drive like a granny. I eventually got a Gov job and well...felonies and gov jobs don't mix... so I gave it all up for the job.

Best of luck with the new career path. You're going to see more interesting stuff in law enforcement than UE could possibly provide.

Therrin has most likely explored a cop.

Yeah, she was a real take-charge type. I guess that's par-for-the-course though.

I've actually explored WITH cops too.

I've even had cops get me to locations that I couldn't have gotten to as a normal civilian.

And I agree that the OP's view on things is pretty naive. But to be fair, he's going from one life into another, and unless he's lived with a cop, being naive isn't his fault, it's just the way things are, and he'll learn, and it'll all be fine.

Good Luck!

Right, imo anyone who believes it's their "life's calling" to be a LEO is an ass. With a chip on their shoulder.

Or you could have the best of both words and be one of those pretend cop losers that thinks its cool to drive around in a retired Police Crown Vic with an illegal lightbar. And a Motorola radio mounted into your dashboard. Ya'll know who you are, lol.

Yeah, cuz anyone who decides their life's calling is to be anythign else is somehow justified in any other way too, right?

The profession attracts its share of bullies to be fair (as Ninjalicious once noted about security guards), but someone has to do it. I figure it might as well be someone nice. If that makes me an ass, I guess that's that and we'll have to go our separate ways.

4. 20-30% of the population of Waco Texas.

Edit: Forgot I'm not in the regional forum. However, I'm sure some people will still relate.

So that's where they all go to die. Good old Waco. Have anything to do with the Branch Davidians some 20 odd years ago? ;)

Use some common sense.
You wrote an absurd essay about things that really need not be mutually exclusive.
One can explore and work in law enforcement.
Cops are rule and law breakers, consistently, on bigger and more serious matters than minor trespassing.
Take a deep breath and don't take yourself so seriously.
Policing is just a job.

Uh ... thanks DevilC? Care to enlighten me on what secret wisdom you seem to have that I clearly don't?

You must be thinking of some other forum. Try breaking an abandoned window or spray-painting an abandoned wall, and see how libertarian-minded folks here are.

You shouldn't go after aggressive drivers, go after the idiots who cause us to be aggressive. I shouldn't be prosecuted for tailgating someone in the left lane (jersey roads) if they are clogging up traffic by doing the speed limit.

Frankly, I hope you're right. I'm just being cautious during a very competitive application process. Things can change later on once I get more experience.

I'm 22, you're 34. I'll take your word for it since you've been on this Earth longer than I have.

Peace.

All that means is he's had the opportunity to use more drugs, drink more beer, and get more std's than you have.
