Getting your event listed
< on 8/8/2005 10:23 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER Forum

If you'd like your event listed in the attendees profile (see my profile for an example), please send me the following information:

- Name of event
- Description
- Date
- Security question and answer
- 32x32 pixel icon representing the event, nothing too distasteful

Please only send me this event after the event has occurred.

This system is intended for larger get-togethers, please don't use it if you have an outing with 2 of your friends.

What format should the icon be in?

"I feel like I just got in a battle of wits with some kid in a helmet I found licking a window."

Please define large. There needs to be a set standard, or else we will be overflowing with event listings.

I'm sure people can have some common sense. I mean usually 10-15 people seem to show up for the Toronto UE meets, which could be considered "large" but at the same time I don't think anyone is going to submit them as an event worthy of an icon.

IMO, "events" in this sense would be things that are planned long in advance and draw more than just casual attention throughout the community.

It's hard to come up with an actual description but that's why common sense should just prevail instead of a set number. An unusually large 20 person monthly meet wouldn't be worth a listing even if Bumfest only had 20 people (I don't actually know it's attendance, just an example...)

I just "hosted" the Belgium Trip '05 and allthoug not many people joined the fun compared to, say, Opex, (only 10 people, of which only 7 member of UER), for me it was a "real" event as I spen t hours planning where who would go when. Especially as it was "widely" announced, open to anyone and 5 days long, it was a real event to me.

but an ordinary exploration that happens tobe joined by 11 ppl is not a real event to me. I think there is no real line but the fact that a fair amount of planning went into it might describe it as an event.

Past Scriptum: I have attended one event but do not have the event star yet. How come?

P.P.S.: I bet it will take 24 hours to update the icons.

Which one? You have to apply to the older ones to get your name listed.

I don't know how UE meets exactly work, but when we hold a road transit meet (which are usually held 1 or 2 times a month in different areas of the US), our groups typically hold anywhere from 3-18 people. Since we draw people more locally to explore a project, we really do not have people coming from seven states away just for a one-day event.

Railfan meets, OTOH, are much larger and can last up to a week...
