Posted by SinCalRyder Some good light painting there therrin, sorry we couldn't make it with you, we were just committed to all kinds of stuff this weekend, but it looks like you had it under control ;)

You're formally invited for next weekend. Same bat time, same bat place. (that's a pun on the bat part, there actually were two bats in there) Let me know if you think you can handle....THE UNDERGROUND!! MUHUHAHAHAHAHAH! (sorry, haloween just came upon me for a second)
Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =) |

Nice shots CR, love that you can actually see under the water in there. Thanks for sharing and it was great to finally meet you in person this weekend!

I smell fish guts and poo poo.......... Sorry the shipyard was locked, I'll try to check on it more often. It was really great meeting all of you. I had already been out on many of your explores thru your lenses. But it was great to actually talk to all of you. I hope to see everyone again sometime. 1.

No worries, Lil Bugsy and I will be back real soon for the ship yard. In fact we were talking about it last night and will probably plan on staying a weekend right there, between what I already knew and what I learned this weekend, we have plenty to stay busy there =)

I can always scout things a day or so in advance of a visit........ SinCal likes wrecks, I know of an old ship wreck. Not a lot left anymore, but it was a liberty ship, so there is a large debris field at the bottom of a steep cliff trail. 1.

This one is from the Cathedral of Junk, in Austin, TX. It's a giant outdoor complex made entirely of scrap, built in a guy's back yard over a period of 20 years. It's actually very close to downtown. Not Pacific Southwest, but what the hell. It's well worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Austin.

I figured that's when you took that. The bunker right behind this magazine used to be wide open....the good old days.

We figured that by looking inside that at one point it was cause of the grafitti

The air inside is also pretty bad, due to a complete lack of ventilation. There looked to be a fair amount of peeling paint (lead) and asbestos, so it could have been a safety concern as well. For some reason, they also seemed to be storing missile racks from the Nike site at the end of the long left-hand corridor.
I've read that there are communication tubes running through the walls at the rear extremes of the complex, which is how the mortar crew communicated before telephones were installed. I would have loved to have know about them at the time we were last inside, just to hear how they sounded. The location is still quite accessible without disturbing anything if you're discreet and a bit handy with puzzles. It does takes a little while to get in, the area around it is popular with tourists and patrolled by rangers and the entrance is completely exposed to the road, so I wouldn't recommend it.
