Here's a shot of my triple-lighting system....
And this one, from a TIGHT squeeze I climbed through, between a collapsed shaft structure and a rock wall. Opened it up about 18" took my excess gear off and squeezed myself through the opening.

This has had me thinking for a while now about a modular mounting system for attatchment to a helmet.
Say you've designed 2 sets of rails. One set bolts on lightly around one side/edge of the helmet, and allows for your pieces to proprietarily connect in to safe and securely.l
Even a mounting strip that starts in the front at the bottom and runs up and over the apex of the helmet and down to the back, perhaps with a rail system around the top of the lower rim.
VERY SIMPLE... not complex. Very lightweight, but EASY TO USE.
Something that allows you to use whatever existing pieces of lighting equipment you have, to simply attatch & detatch to and from your existing adventure helment.
Say you want so much light in front, but the option of so much throw down in front of that, ass well as prefering to have flood that's pointed in certain spots while you're always moving.
This would allow for all of that to be set up and clamped/and-or-secured in such a manner that you don't have to worry about it.
Then, say a week later you're mission is slightly different and it'd be better to have a big more throw light, mounted from both sides, and just a little bit of flood up front. After switching the pieces around and making sure they're all connected tightly....BAM!~ all set.
Whatcha think? Sort of a helmet mounting platform and adapters to allow the multiplicity of what all is available with a helmet mounted system which can quickly and easily change position as your needs change for what you need it to do.
Its a rough "plan" I'm working on... I'd like to hear input about it. Any takers? Any Ideas? Comments (both good and bad)?? (flames?) (advice?)
Anyone else in being able to use something like this as well?

That sounds like a cool idea. Of course, it's only really relevant to helmet wearers.

The 80N3 series of remotes will not work with the Rebel series, I believe you need the 60E3 series of remotes for those cameras.

are you sure it plugs into the xt? I've been thinking of getting one since my IR remote stopped working....but it was listed as a 10/50d and 5d/1d compatible only.

Yeah, it's a Chinese knockoff that apparently works with the 350D, but has the functions of a TC-80N. It's from a sketchy Chinese eBay backmarket dealer, so we'll see. I won't lose too much sleep if it doesn't work as planned, since it was only $30.

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly but you can get timer remotes for the rebel series of cameras from ebay. If you want something wireless I would recommend the Phottix line of products, that can be found on ebay. A friend recommended them to me because they are reliable.

I've used the cheap Phottix ones and had no problem.
Unless you count dropping the trigger into the river as a problem.

A beaver ate mine. I dropped it leaving a mine in northern Ontario, and when I came back the next day to get it (and my tripod which I stupidly forgot.. don't ask), I came across it, and it was chewed up. The beaver ate the cord completely, and left the piece that goes on top of the camera.

An illustration of the demise of my radio trigger:
I was actually lighting up that very shot from above when I dropped the trigger (and a light, actually, but that thankfully stayed out of the water), and it bobbed around for a moment before disappearing into the drain. Sadly, the water in front is very deep, so short of a swim, I wasn't getting anywhere near it. 
Actually, I've lost another once since then - probably time to order a new one.

Meta, that's basically what happened to my 3 flashlights. Except, I was rappelling down the side at the time, because I'm extreme and stuff ;)

That's a really over sized radio trigger, I would hate to carry around one that big in addition to everything else in my bag.
