I use AA & AAA so I dont have any CR123 to test for fit.
...
If for CR123- You will have to do ur own review.

I have the same cases but in grey. Fit with cr123s is okay, but the lid does not close as securely and there is a very small gap. You kinda have to force the lid to fit over the top of the cell, but it will snap shut. Haven't had a problem so far.

What drop in did you get? I've got a terralux that is great but it was a more expensive 3 emitter design. Although they have a single emitter version thats much cheaper, and still very good.

Finally pulled it apart to check. The side of the bulb colar says:

NITE IZE
White 2-8 cell
C-D PR LED

I just put 3 fresh D cell batteries in it and tried it out. It's suprisingly bright. I really like it. I think it was like $7.

The mag drop in is WAY better. Bit pricey-er but worth it. They are also model specific.

Courier arrived today with a clicky tailcap for my Preon, which I'll use when I have it in 2xAAA mode. Only thing is, I put the Preon down somewhere and now I can't find it...

Oh, and a Quark R5 AA2 was in the package, too, but that's for my brother's upcoming birthday.

Yes The Nite-Ize drop in is a all purpose bulb. It fits a bunch of different D & C cel flash size lights. Including The old energizer style lights.

And the military lights. They make these mediocre at best lights into decent torches you would not be ashamed to bring around ur friends. I do have them in a dozen or so other light as well, so I'm not knonk'n em.

But in the Mag? They are brighter then a stock bulb, but they fuck with the focus. You lose alot of its adjustability. The Mag version is made specifically for each model Mag. 2,3,&4 in the D cels are different bulbs. Each are regulated for the battery outputs. I find it to be much brighter in all the models(I got em all) & they retain their full adjust-ability.

I thought those mag-brand dropins were supposed to be a bit rubbish? Maybe I'm just thinking of the very first releases, though... they prolly have some new ones around since they first introduced LEDs, right?

Do Mag still make the Solitaire? Is it still a feeble little incan thing?

(This is on my mind, because I still haven't found my Preon, dammit)

Not light related (well, sort of), but today I ordered a Chinese knockoff of the legendary Canon TC-80N3. This means no more sprinting across a slippery sewer in 10 seconds to light that photo from around the tunnel.

Gotta love being a piss poor student with a consumer camera body. Tough times.

Handy! I had a Nikon equivalent... well, a knock-off Nikon equivalent. I managed to break it quickly, but it was nifty while I had it.

The Mags I have blow the Nite-Ize away. They do make the solitaire but have replaced mine with the Nano. Far Superior as stated in my review. & they are about the same price.

yes they do, and it still obliterates darkness with its .5 lumens of rage!....

i took mine and put a 14440 cell in it and a stock mini mag bulb, and made a little monster. i was getting half an amp at the tall, and it was really white from being so over driven, bulb life is about 15 mins with this set up, but oh what a nice 15 mins it is, it kills a stock mini mag, in throw(even with the tiny reflector) and total light out put, very nice for a edc key chin light.

In other news i got my battery today from battery space, so i am ready to put in some base miles with my sst-50 now.

That little term 'SST-50' sure warms the heart. I was eyeing off the JetBeam M2S just earlier.

I have the Nikon knock-off as well. Works just fine - have had no problems. Well one problem: I find myself not using it enough. I'm often too lazy to go into my pack, dig out the remote, put the battery in it, etc just for one certain shot. So I find myself still setting the timer and running around in slippery sewers like an idiot anyway.

are you sure it plugs into the xt? I've been thinking of getting one since my IR remote stopped working....but it was listed as a 10/50d and 5d/1d compatible only.

The 80N3 series of remotes will not work with the Rebel series, I believe you need the 60E3 series of remotes for those cameras.

Just got back from the April Mojave mining trip. Wanted to report that my lighting arrangement worked out very nicely.

I had 2 petzl headlamps on my helmet, and one Coast handlight attatched to a strap on the side of my helmet, so I had flood for my feet, and straight ahead, and a throw beam to see far in front. A very good mix.

Besides that I had a twin Coast handheld in a holster on the front left leg of my climbing harness that I could use for handheld pointing, & emergency glowsticks in my pocket.

A very well-rounded assortment that allowed ease of viewing for all the stuff I wanted to see. I think it's my new mining setup for now as I'm very satisfied with it.

truthfully, any headband would have worked.

The body of my lights are too large in diameter to fit the Fenix clamps, so I found some poly tubing at the hardware store that's just a hair smaller in diameter than the flashlight body. Slid the flashlight inside a section of it, ziptied it to the band and then wrapped it in electrical tape. That way I could put the band around the helmet and the light would be on one side.

Worked very well.
