Hey jaredog, do you go to WTAMU? I've heard there are tunnels but was never able to substantiate the claims.

I graduated from WTAMU in 2001. I'm pretty sure there are tunnels that are fairly easy to access.

Jaredog, do you remember what settings you used on those fireworks? What lens you used? That is one hella sharp picture.

Like yours too Altaria. I like the flower look to it and the moon in the background.

I tried to do some different things this year that I had read about, and it did help, but mine are not nearly so sharp.

I was shooting my Nikon D90 with the 18-105mm kit lens. f/22, ISO 200. Exposure time varied. I put it on the bulb setting and would open the shutter as some fireworks went off, then close it when I felt like I got some good ones. For the first half of the show I would leave it open for several and the second half I was just shooting individual fireworks.

I've got a whole set on my flickr:

Thanks!

I went searching for interesting alleyways in San Antonio and came to the conclusion that San Antonio only has a hand full of alleyways at all. I did find what I think could be an interesting tunnel but did not venture inside.

Nice one Barry. Always wanted to check that one out. Surprised it was 'vacant' or was it?

Definitely vacant. The only sound was the chirp of dying smoke detector batteries.

Yeah, the whole area is getting ready for "redevelopment", which often means that Billy L. Nabors will be showing up soon. I hope they find some way to preserve the Alamo Plaza facade and sign -- especially the sign!

(Side note: wecouldwrecktheworld.com, Nabors' under-construction website, is unintentionally hilarious. It's currently a default "small business website" template, with stock photos of generic businessmen in suits next to the text, "WE COULD WRECK THE WORLD". With a pen? I guess so.)

Yup, they have to save at least one of the 'motor hotels' on the old strip.

Alamo is definitely the coolest.

Taken a couple years ago.
