Interesting trivia/factoid here, CS gas is the only chemical weapon that is legally allowed to be tested on live human subjects (not in the course of duty)

That's part of training for both military and LEOs who use it I believe. So they know what to expect Non-lethals are so much more fun when you can share...
edit, for clarity

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

Did you take some pictures of them?

Of the people? No of course not. Just was pulling up when they left. Figured they were regular explorers. I wouldn't want my photo taken coming out of an abandonment.

We are all one big happy family... I've shot "explorers" before especially if they in a place I like. Might want to rethink that. That said if you're not ready to R&R, you never get the shot. My cam was always ready to go. Just pull and then half a second to boot up, preset to aperture mode. I've shot irate motorists too going down the road side by side with me. Fun times. It's a judgement call on a case by case basis.

I try not to shoot explorers unless they seem ok with it. Or if there's any reason. There was no way I was going to get a good shot of them, it would have just been wasted memory on my external.

I'm not be very trusting of strangers... It really doesn't matter you didn't shoot em. It's fun to do sometimes though.

My trust for strangers on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 0. I still try to respect them even if I dont trust them.

Respect is earned. People deliberately approaching me have about ten words to explain why. I blew off two panhandlers the other day, fast. Lol, one said "God be with you", my reply "God has nothing to do with it" My responses are based on experience, tempered by my mood at the time and my perceived reasons for their actions. Trespassers are always suspect to me; I watch and observe to determine their intents if I care to. There's no one rule that applies to all situations. It's fluid, and if you're not fluid too you may experience undesirable results... If you want to shoot my image especially on the street, WTF, knock yourself out. Lol, enough cams including FBI ones have grabbed my image already.

Flickr and instagram is full of that. My opinion - smoke bombs or whatsoever must be used in a smart way, otherwise it looks "meh, nothing special". If i would see bunch of white smoke coming from an abandoned building, the 1st thought would be "ohh this place is on fire, should i call firefighters or somebody already did it?" https://www.flickr.../1283786@N22/pool/

It puts you in hot water too because the assholes are attracting attention. I get tired of stupid real fast... most people call it in when they see smoke coming from a building.
