What kind of camera do you guys use?

For now I just have my phone, which is alright, I'm still new. But those of you who have amazing pictures probably have amazing cameras! I just wanted to know what type and price range of good cameras for this kind of fun.

I used to use a Canon Rebel T1i, but it broke. Right now I borrow my girlfriends Rebel XS. I'm looking to upgrade to a new body soon though, and since I already have a few lenses I'm probably gonna stick with Canon. The video quality on their DSLR's is unreal as well.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question... If you are new in photography get the nikon D3200 it's a excellent camera the price is around 350 and 400 dollars (I pay for my 360 on eBay) AND If you are getting a dslr camera save money to buy a nice tripod if you can. My person opinion I don't like to use flash on this kind of photos I prefer the tripod and the long exposure.

I use a D7000 with a Tokina 11-16mm and a Sigma 18-200mm lens. It's a great camera - very durable, reasonable price (you can get the body for under $500 now).

It's been supplanted by the 7100 and 7200, but the 7000 is still a very solid, reliable camera.

Also, here's a comparison between the 3200 and 7000 - they're very comparable, although the 7000 has a few features (like weather sealing) that can make it nice for this type of work:

Hey, you can get some neat shots with a phone camera. I took this with my Samsung Note 4 and I love how it turned out:

Dead Air by Jon Washburn, on Flickr

Sometimes you just end up getting the shot using whatever you happened to have on hand or use at the time. I wanted something to put on Instagram before I finished up on site so I took it with my phone and processed it on site.

Now you can't do a lot of stuff with a phone camera, but that doesn't mean your photos won't be good - it just may take a little extra care.

Thanks for all the feedback! I'll stick with my phone camera for now and maybe invest into the Nikon d3200.

I've got a Canon 7D with a whole bunch of lenses (my favorite is my Sigma 18-35), but I've also owned some of the Canon rebel series, as well as entry-level Nikon bodies. My best advice if you want to get into photography more seriously would be to get a basic dslr body, invest in some good glass (it'll last you a lifetime if well-maintained), and upgrade your body as you see fit. Looks like you're already on the right track

Happy shooting.

I'm using a Nikon D90 with an 18-70mm lens and it's incredible. Got it for $600 used, lens included. It's a wonderful camera, and a great investment for a beginner. In my opinion, at least.

As is always brought out in threads like this, technique and composition are key to photography. Use your phone camera to improve your composition until you've saved up enough $$ for your new camera. Depending on the phone you have, there are some pretty amazing apps that will give you a lot more control over your phone cam.

I shoot a Canon 6D. That being said, research, go in to stores and try different brands out and see what works for you. A camera is a personal preference ;)

Just recently picked up an Olympus omd em10. It's mirrorless so it's quite small, but so far has really great image quality, I just need to improve my composition, and properly learn the menu system.

I've been using a Canon Powershot sx500 on explores for the past year or so, but I recently picked up a Rebel T6i with a couple of kit lenses. Very much looking forward to using it on explores, and hoping to be able to grow into it for a while.

As others have said, it's all about shopping around and finding a good fit when the time comes to upgrade.

Nikon D3200!

good beginner camera. but I'll upgrade to the D7100 sometime. it'll be cheaper in the long run since you can use older glass and still have autofocus. Also it's low light is much better.

Wish I could go Full frame or even medium format, but thats not till much later down the road ;)

I started with the nikon d3300 but recently got a d7200. I was able to get the d3300 with a kit lens and a bunch of other things from eBay for right under $500. It was a great starting camera for sure.

I haven't explored yet, but the camera I use would depend on exactly what & where I'm exploring

I have the option of a JVC Everio Camcorder with 40x optical zoom & a GoPro HERO3 probably with a head strap, or a chest unit for it.
The HERO3 because if the battery starts dying, I can stop recording, change batteries & continue. The JVC if its daytime, and need to view something but cannot safely enter where it is. Downside to JVC is, once its battery is dead, it's dead

Primary Radio: Retevis RT1 or RT3 on UHF/ GMRS Frequencies (Digital Mode for longer battery life)
Backup Radio: Puxing PX888K on UHF/ GMRS Frequencies (Analog)
Last Resort Radio: Motorola TalkAbout MH370CR Radio on GMRS
