I've used climbing hooks and rope ladders on several occasions. Also free climbed up the side of a couple buildings to get into the second floor. It's not uncommon to need to get 20' up onto a fire escape to gain entry.

Although technically not a POE, it was the collapsed entrance to the rest of the mine.
Down an inclined shaft about 75' to the bottom that is filled in with dirt.
Decided to see if we could dig our way in. So we started digging.
I dug my way through then started enlarging the opening.
My friend Tony comes through behind me.
In the end it was a bit anti-climatic as the drift only continued another 40 or 50 feet. Still, we were the first ones to set foot in there for a very long time.
It's pretty common for us to dig our way into collapsed sections of mines. Behind the collapses often have untouched areas that haven't been picked clean by the scavengers.

I've always had luck finding POE's on the 2nd floor if the first floor is sealed up tight

I have another one although also not a poe, me and my brother wanted to see what was in the basement of those apartments I posted the pics a while back on, but it was completely flooded and we didnt have boots.... so we decided we would make a boat... at first we were thinking bathtubs.... but that wasnt happening as they were all too heavy to move. Then we saw a fridge in one of the rooms.... so we unscrewed the hinges and took off the doors. Every apartment in the place had one so we just grabbed the one closest to the stairs and rode it down the stairs.... which was really dumb and I ended up falling out before we hit the bottom. But anyways we didnt think it would work at all. so we get to basement and to our surprise, not only does it float... it holds me AND my brother. I sat in the fridge and he sat in the freezer. It held itself up really well and we used pvc pipes to "row" around the basement. From there we found a drain pipe that led to under the road in a drain. The boat is still there to this day and if you ever feel like traversing the basement... hop in! I'll post pictures sometime lol

I drove through an overgrown field in an old car with less than 80hp. Had no way of knowing what was down there, so I could have gotten stuck at any moment. But... that's about it. I don't really get out enough to have any great stories.

When you get my age I tend to crawl under the fence instead of over it. Open doors and windows is about as extreme as I'll get these days. However even like that you'd be amazed at how many places can be gotten into....

In the UK we have nasty stuff called Palisade fencing, basically steel fencing with each slat topped by a trio of metal spikes, it's a total bitch and if nobody has forced some of the bars apart or dug under it the only way to go is over the top, it's nicknamed the 'ball-shredder' because one slip and you give up having kids for life...

One time I bought one of those fire escape ladders you hook onto a second story window sill to drop into an abandoned bank through a skylight... only to get on the roof and find the fire escape door for the taller part of the building had already been pried open.

I'd have to say this old train depot I was at. The first floor is in a constant flux of having openings one week and coming back the next to find those same openings sealed, so the group I was with found some questionable rope hanging from a second story awning, and propped an even more questionable plank up against the awning's edge so we could walk vertically up to the top and from there just hop in through a second story window.
It was especially tough because if you didn't balance just right, the plank would shift and roll you right off, or it would just slip to the side and fall, likely dropping you over a railing and onto the pile of concrete and rebar some 15 or so feet below.

I once had to climb up one of those round orange construction markers, then onto those large gatorade coolers that was balanced on top. This was just to grab hold of a crumbling wall and pull myself up. There was about a 4ft gap in between this crumbling, thin brick wall and the window that was about 1/2 down the wall. But you couldn't put the "steps" over because the wall got taller. So once standing upon the wall I had to scoot down trying not to fall because the roof was absent in that 4ft gap. I could see straight down into the basement. So as the bricks are slipping out from under my feet as I move down this wall I then had to step on a rotten 2x4 that was kind of stretched out as a make shift bridge to the window. Thank god the window was wide open because I kind of just went for it. So imagine all of that, being older and bigger..then exploring the entire building and worrying the whole time about how you were going to get back out. This was by far one of the craziest POE's I have ever gone in.

One time I dangled myself from a window with a twenty foot drop just to get into the Symes Transfer Station. Slightly disconcerting, to say the least.

A place I've been to multiple times with VAD and others, requires going into one building, and then taking a decent length of tunnel to reach the other location. It generally ends up taking nearly an hour and sometimes more just to get to the building through this method, and while it's not exactly daring, it's certainly the most lengthy POE I've encountered.
The only really dangerous thing I've done to get somewhere (not counting hopping barbed wire in the rain- that was close though), would be freeclimbing up multiple stories to get on top of billboards, building rooves, and sometimes to enter places.
However, I will never damage a property to get in. One of my favorite things about UE is the challenge you sometimes have of getting in, without being destructive.

Fence climb over the razor wire, pipe climb to 1st story roof, lower self through the high ceilinged window onto first floor, climb stairs to 3rd floor, access roof, lay i-beam at 45° angle across into next building window, pull/slide up across the alleyway gap, access to the abandoned bank hotel achieved. All floors access.

Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? Improperly reinforced tunnels (i.e., self-dug) can collapse at any time, and digging around the edges of a properly reinforced tunnel is a quick way to make it give way. Glad y’all made it out safely though!

I’ve got a bunch of good contenders; a lot involve active sites with active security, and each crazy in its own way
- Surfing an elevator to get to a locked-off floor in a building (done this countless times, not really crazy for me anymore)
- Rappelling from one balcony to another to get to a different locked-off floor in a different building
- Climbing across an antenna we put over the centre of a spiral staircase to get past a locked door in it
- Taking a photograph of a security guard’s keys, reading off the code from that and having my own key cut to code
- Using a coat-hanger-based lock bypass method to get into a mech room of one building, then a different such method to open the grate into a steam tunnel from there, then traversing through the tunnel for 500m, climbing over and under pipes and other things, squeezing through 8” gaps around gates with contact alarms in them, all to emerge out into the building of interest.
- Sitting there for hours on end trying every combination for a combination lock into a place.
- One of my more brazen entries was with Darthbindy and another friend – it was just hopping over a construction fence, but the fence was adjacent to an active roadway, across the street from an active entertainment venue, and we did it in the middle of the afternoon.
- Adding a jumper cable over exposed ends of an alarm wire to temporarily disable the alarm
- But my best was probably not quite a POE, but the POE to the roof – a few years ago I had a medical condition that confined me to a wheelchair – so I had some friends open the hatch used for moving HVAC equipment up to the roof, and lower the hook of a hydraulic lift down to the room I was it… I then tied a rope harness around myself, clipped into the crane and had it lift up first the wheelchair, then me – mission impossible style. Of course, going back down was the reverse.
