How far will YOU go for a POE? (crazy POEs)

Hey guys, so I was recently exploring with some friends and there was 2 walls you had to spiderman up between about 2 stories to get to the roof. Well my friends said "NOPE" and wouldn't follow. But it got me thinking about how far and crazy I'll go for a POE. I tend to live by the rule "if it exists I'm getting in" and I can't tell you how many holes I've contorted through, walls I've climbed barefoot to grab the grout, and *skills* I've used on normally inaccessible areas.

So I wanna hear about your crazy POEs! Anything that takes feats of skill, daring grit, or just getting dirty. Of course no location revealing details, just what you had to do.

So how far have you had to go for a POE?

I once bought a girl dinner to get into her POE, does that count?

The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.

Quit referring to Orangedrink as a girl.

I once climbed a fire ladder for 14 stories to access a tower (one of my recent posts). Upon entering I find that there's a staircase in a dark corner of the base building that I had overlooked.

Other than that I haven't done anything too crazy. I try not to destroy property or bypass security measures as felonies aren't very enjoyable.

Nice.

Yeah I don't like to destroy property. I like it to be like I was never there.

I probably have the worst coordination ever so if I ever tried to jump between two walls it would most likely end with me taking a ride in the back of an ambulance.

I'd say the most uneasy POE I've done was climb up a rusty 3 story fire escape to get into a small attic door because there was no other way in.

Rappelled from the 6th floor of a parking garage to the roof of the building next door (about 50 feet) to go through an open window in the building next door to it.

Once had to shimmy up an air conditioning duct to a gutter then run and huck myself from one building's roof to another so I could climb into the second one. Haha once I got inside I discovered they had started the remodel so all walls were knocked down and it was gutted. Bunch of work por nada.

Climbed three stories up a flagpole that was secured to the building by a rusty three foot L-bracket up top. The skinniest of us would take shifts every visit, as only one of us would have to do it. Once on the roof you simply walked through a door, down the stairs, and could open the front door for everybody else. It was even a push latch.

Thinking back on it now, that flagpole was entirely too unsafe to be climbing.

My most risky was one I'd on any other day say 'FUCK NO' to as I'm a 'relaxed explorer' kind of guy but I was with my mate I hadn't seen for ages and he was determined to show me a soon to be demolished art deco cinema in his home town so I thought sod it I'll go. To say it was a convoluted way in is putting it mildly, but it was necessary as it was the only access!

It involved going round the back of the building through a community centre garden (where they hold karate lessons, luckily no angry karate people there), and climbing over a metal railing, then shimmying along the base of the railing with a 20-foot drop behind you, and it wasn't a straight railing it sloped down twice at a 45 degree angle. Then climb over some wooden hoarding that went across the railing (still with the big drop) and drop yourself down into the old smoking area of the building when it was converted into a nightclub after closing as a cinema. Then my mate had placed a four metre length of fence against the building to climb up and onto a one-brick wide parapet. Then climbing around some drainpipes and onto the top of an air conditioning unit fixed to the wall by two wobbly brackets. Then sliding yourself feet first through a narrow window with metal bars going across it horizontally. Getting out from the window to the air conditioning unit afterwards was fun....not.

Oh heck no! I'm especially too short to even attempt half of any of that. Hope the place was well worth it!

To be brutally honest it wasn't - it had a few nice things but numerous nightclub conversions had ripped out almost all the original art deco fixtures, the roof was nice though so we had a nice chill on it for a while.

How far will I go? Well, since I'm not short and stocky, I sometimes have to resort to rope. Here is a shot extracted from Implausib1e's 75mp GoPro of me pulling myself up a fire escape with the noose end of the rope tied to my foot:

That's way cool. I've never thought of doing that!

Also yesterday i just climbed through a ventilation shaft from the roof and down into the building. Probably the sketchiest thing i've ever done. I'm a bit claustrophobic and i had to go in on my stomach and do a 180 reverse going downward which brought me to laying on my back. I then had to turn onto my belly and go headfirst through the air vent. It was one of those things where if this doesn't work i'm major screwed. Luckily before hand i had looked through one of the windows and could see the target vent and it went straight up so i knew there was nothing else between the roof and the entry point.

Actually the sketchiest thing I have done wasn't an initial point of entry but it was a requirement to get to where we needed to be once inside the buildings. At a very large asylum nestled deep in the Welsh countryside the only route to the clock tower involved hugging a wall very tightly indeed and inching around the very edge of a totally collapsed floor on what was left of the beams - no more than one inch of wood sticking out from the wall and a sheer drop down into the collapsed floor debris - and around a 90 degree bend, then onto an area that wasn't collapsed, before jumping over a collapsed area of floor onto the base of the stairs leading up to the base of the clock tower. The clock tower stairs were narrow wooden stairs that doubled back on themselves and the small landings between flights had no floors at all. And to get onto the roof you had to stand on a pipe with a drop down to the bottom of the stairs below you and contort yourself out of a small hole in the corner of the roof...the views were worth it though!

I weigh next to nothing (canadian blood services won't allow me to donate because i don't meet the minimum weight requirement) and i'm fairly agile and quick, so I tend.to do more risky things to access hard-to-reach areas. Last night example I ran across the exposed beams of a roof that had already collapsed in order to access another building.

Probably my riskiest move was, after drinking a bunch of beer on the exposed steel beams of a construction site in Busan (8 floors up, just me and the air) i decided that going down was too dangerous in my inebriated state so i went up, and skirted my way along the beams and took a running jump to the emergency fire escape of a hotel next door. It was probably a 6 foot gap (not too bad) but i found myself locked in a linen closet so i had to reach through a wee door gap to shimmy the lock (the same cheap variety i used in my classroom all had the same combination). Made my way out throigh the hotel.

I had made it in through similarly convoluted, but significantly less risky measures.
