| | | The big issue with them falling out of tune is a) they get handled roughly and stored in a vault, and you don't get the same ones every time and thus have to tune them every time you draw a weapon from the vault.(side note, with service rifle, the bolt carriers get tossed in a box and you never get matching/same carrier twice in a row) b) They, of course, end up being used to train new members in the use of that fire arm and of course, someone who never used a pistol before may not take the best care of them. For the sake of range shoots, I can't use my own mags. For the sake of the two way shooting range, Generally a modern Sig P225 or 226 is used instead. (And are set to 100% replace the HP by 2015) if an HP is issued, it issued with brand new magazines from reserve stocks, and of course, now you keep the same mags for the entire deployment, allowing you to tune them properly. Its just a hassle for the shooting at paper for qual or shooting on an ex... I guess I'll live with it.. but I will look into the promag's you mentioned for the sake of exercises where I could probably get away with it.

| | | Ok, according to my buddy, this is indeed a known problem (I had no idea). Browning mags apparently function perfectly up to a point, and when they pass that wear life. thats it. John says find yourself a few issue mags that work, tune them up, and don't let go of them until separation from service. Failing that, he says you just have to get good with adjusting the mag feed lips yourself. He showed me a small set of needle nose pliers he uses for the job. Round jaws, not flat. Don't know how much this helps, but thats what I've got.
| I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |
