its a high velocity hard alloy slug wasp waisted looking projectile about .52 cal with a nylon sabot (split sleeve)

the sabot lets go and the slug is self stabilizing I got 4-5" groups at 100yds
and one ragged hole at 50yds with a smooth bore 20" 870 police and open sights

I just Googled it says Bass Pro shops and Cabelas sells "Winchester BRI" saboted slugs, never tried those, BRI used to be the brand of the whole shell

anyway I had two boxes and used them up one day they got less kick than the Remington rifled slugs (Holy crap ever shoot those off a bench they kick like Hell in my pump gun w/no recoil pad)

I never keep slugs in it I keep 3" #1 for around the house I still have some #4 buck it wont go through my walls and take out the neighbors the BRI will shoot through walls, cars, walls and cars maybe I'll try those Winchesters
in my Model 12 its a 20" 12ga cylinder bore not a sawed off it was a police gun it has some Parish in Louisiana Sheriffs Dept stamped into the stock like a dummy I sanded it off.

Interesting. I am always open to new ammo.
I have always used Federal Tactical or Remington LE slugs.
Have killed bear with both varieties at distances as far as 50 meters.
The LE/tactical ammo is cleaner and has a reduced flash profile - that's why I prefer it.

For the home, the first 2 rounds are always rubber #4 buckshot. You can always cycle past the non-lethal if need be - a shotgun is generally a "go and get" weapon.

I've wanted a shotgun for a while now but have too many expensive hobbies and haven't got around to purchasing one yet. What I'd really like to have is a Benelli M2 Tactical but that is way out of my price range. Instead I plan to eventually emulate one in some way.

Semi-auto is not necessary, the features I like most about the M2 is the ghost ring sights, full stock (doesn't have to collapse) and pistol grip.

So I'm thinking of going with a Mossberg 590 with Ghost ring or rifle sights and adding a pistol grip stock or Remington 870 Tactical with ghost ring sights and adding the pistol grip stock. I know I could also buy those ghost ring heat shields and add that to whatever but they seem kinda crappy.

I don't plan on buying it too soon but if anyone has any suggestions they would be welcome.

Anyway, nice set you have there DevilC

Some beauties there DevilC.

I'm the proud owner of three of the old Ithaca Model 37, 1 each in 20 ga, 16 ga and 12 ga. Got a thing for that bottom eject.

God loves shotguns!

I have seen it.
Issued DoJ "Witness Protection" shotties are now based upon the 870 chassis.

Its a 3"mag 870 Express.
18.5" barrel
2rnd Wilson combat extension
Choate pistolgrip buttstock & fore-end
Vang comp 6rnd side saddle, domed saftey and delrin follower
Shitty walmart sling, havent decided on a permanent sling for it yet.

Looking to put a rail atop the reciever, and ghost ring sites front & back,
and a surefire fore-end grip w/ light.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Why would you put a rail on a shotgun?
You plan to hunt with it, or shoot slugs out past 25M?

Ugh. Why?
For a HD shotgun, 'less is more.'
If you plan to hunt with it, knock yourself out.

I would call any Aimpoint model a welcome advantage on nearly any close quarters weapon. You can't get anything more rugged or energy efficient. If by some hellish stroke of incredibly bad luck it does break, it makes for a large ghost ring.

Not on a shotgun brother.
Scatterguns are not carbines.
Running a shotgun is all about bringing it to bear fast.
Show me a SWAT team with red dots on their shotguns, you won't find one.

An Aimpoint on a shotgun? You would need about 20 of them, one for each piece of shot.

A flashlight with a wide flood beam would be a million times more functional.
