Holy smokes, nice lighting and composition in these shots. Pardon my ignorance, but what's CHDK stand for?

Thank you very much! And wish me luck - there could be new pictures after next weekend...

CHDK is small program that you put to your memory card and use your camera's upgrade firmware option. It gives really lot new (and more) to Canon cameras (not digital system ones but to basic cameras), like really long exposures (if I am not wrong, longest possible is over half an hour). These pictures were 1-2 minute exposures.

I really recommend it to Canon owners, it really can improve your camera. And it doesn't change anything permanently. Just turn power off and your camera is that old one.

Check out there:

CHDK is definitely a great tool for any one with a canon. I would be careful with the longer exposures too much might kill the sensor. Some of the smaller sensors aren't designed to run that long and I'm not sure that they have overheat protection like some of the bigger DSLR's

Really nice, especially second and last!

And then back to my life - it seems that I am cursed. First I did think that saturday night would be perfect for long and slow photographing session, but -24 celsius were too much comparing to +6 celsius beer. Sunday would be better, even weather should get much warmer then.

And today..? My brother did have hangover so I did have to get on the road alone. I usually love (and even need to) photograph alone, but with these dark time hobbies more hands can be useful sometimes. Much bigger problem were snowstorm, again! So after all I did spent just one hour there, until I did have to get back home still I were still able to do so. Ten pictures total, but... I'll add just these two:

Anyway it weren't worthless trip - I did get few new ideas that maybe could work, so now I am waiting my next visit... And last one shall be from saturday and home, after three pints I did feel that I just have to play... "Washing blood money" or something like that..?

Some recent work.

1.

The Growing Glow Beyond
I know, there's been a lot of steel wool on the interwebs lately. However this site is a long time favorite of mine. It was a famous glass works for exactly 1 year before the panic in 1873 closed it's doors for good. I felt it only fitting that sparks could fly once more at this location. (it was actually raining so those would be the only sparks.)

Thank you. Did some really inspiring experiments with it tonight.

And here we go, again. With two trips actually... First one:

And then tonight. Now I know what stupidism really means: 2,5 hours alone in that abandoned cowshed, -7 celsius and 12 pictures total (4+ minute exposures).

Too many drains. Needs more theatres.

3 minute test, no light painting, ISO100, f/11.

9 minute exposure, 7 minutes of continuous painting between a friend and I, warm and neutral tint lights with a stationary cold lantern ghetto rigged to a collapsed column at the back of the theatre.

Fill light provided by burning steel wool.*

You northeasters and your fancy aboveground things!

We have topsides here, too, you know!

Wait, those are underground... let me find others.

Hmm. Also underground. I'm sure I have something that's not. *rummages*

Okay, okay.

YES! Topside light painting! See! It just looks like it's probably underground.

You guys are pretty hardcore lightpainters. But are you bad enough to lightpaint...through time!?

Not really. But still, who's gone lightpainting younger than 8 years old?

Robot sadface

Fire sword

I think the flashlight work was too boring for them.

Yeah- shoot topside more.

It's better than drains. And there's plenty of opportunity to light paint in dark spaces.
