Exterior lights provided by the city. Interior lighting at the front is a dildo-equipped Quark wedged under the sun visor, and the rear is lit with a flash pop.

Nice! How did you affix the camera to the hood? I hope it was something more stable than duct tape and bungee cords!

Also: My first light painting attempt! It was a last-minute sort of thing, no planning involved, and certainly isn't ground-breaking, but I think it turned out pretty ok.

One of my friends, the guy sitting in the passenger seat in fact, had bought a suction cup mount off ebay a few months before, but had been hesitant to use it. Considering the mount was under $20, the hesitation is understandable!

Anyway, with a secondary tether tying the camera to the wipers, just in case, I went from walking-pace drives to slow street drives, to driving through the centre of the city, and finally hitting the freeway, all with a few grand in camera gear suction-mounted to the car by this cheap plastic dealie.

My radio trigger died, though, so I had to use a cable release instead, which wasn't quite long enough - you can see it taped to the outside of car, over to the far left, there

Hmmm I have one of those mounts sitting on my coffee table right now. We use it for autocrossing but I believe I may have to steal it!

Now that I have a camera that will take a long exposure longer than 10 seconds I am so ready to try some of this!

That archway is killer! Also, drain boating looks like a lot of fun.

Tonight's light painting experiment involved throwing steel wool into a pit...which was full of dry leaves...whoops.

The Drainer's Firepit:

That's a really subtle and kind of disconcerting effect. I like it! The second one with the strong, diverging shadows worked especially well.

Razor wire? Pshhhh... Try getting through Lazor Wire.

Though I guess it looks like you could probably just go around it...

That looks cool - I almost thought it was razor wire, to begin with.

Jeez man, I can't believe there's a whole private sector here dedicated to light painting.

I'm amazed at how far the concept has come in 20 years.

When I first started doing this in 1989, there were only a few people in the world doing hand held lighting during time exposures, with any regularity. They were mainly studio shooters. Near as I can tell I was the first one to bring LP (and night shooting for that matter) into a UE context.

Look at it now. UE/NP/LP is fucking everywhere! A bona fide "school of photography." Did I really start all this?

Here's a few from my beginnings:

I 8 Puppies- 1990

First Star- 1990

Amputee- 1990
