I figure I might as well post here about the best and most bizarre entries in the Location Database.

Yeah, it's obsolete as fuck, and yeah, nobody really cares about it anymore, but there's no denying there's some real weird shit in that there pile of data.

Feel free to chime in with whatever entries you think are worthy of mention.

Let's start with this extra-special case. Full-members only, sorry.

That's the most insane entry to the LDB I've ever seen. I wonder if it's still there somewhere.

I've got a pretty weird entry from the LDB as well. This was discovered in a storm drain in New England. I wish there was more info about it somewhere.

Hah! All hail the weirdo urban artists that make the world a more interesting place.

For some reason this one stuck with me over the years. Tons and tons and tons of Wales slate waste. And by tons, I mean actual mountains-full. Publicly viewable entry (for a change).

A large campus with about two dozen buildings that once served as Montana's largest state-run orphanage, hosting between two hundred and up to seven hundred (by some less reliable accounts) children at a time. The landowner does still live in a house at the center of campus and is reputably not fond of explorers, so tread with caution. The buildings themselves are in near-pristine shape and are easily accessed, the sheer remoteness of the orphanage protecting them from most vandalism.

I always enjoy finding a spot that's so bizarre your mind doesn't know what to do with it for a good minute. It's not often, but it's this walking into a new world feeling that I most long to have when exploring.

Thanks for the shoutout! I do what I can, I see it as a form of historic preservation. To be honest I was on the fence about posting that first one since it's such a cool and pristine spot, but given how far it is from literally everything (rural Montana is about as far out of the way as you can get in the lower 48), the extreme unlikelihood of scrappers or vandals driving 12+ hours to wreck it, and the fact that I had kind of already blown it with my big writeup and I figured a DB entry would be fine.

it's still there, in all it's glory... if this site ever goes down, i hope there is a way to preserve the DB, not just for it's locations, but the running commentary on the posted pictures... especially in the Ontario and George sections. They're comic gold.

UER has some awesome pieces of obscure internet history, it's really all worth preserving. It makes me wonder how much data this site actually hosts. Photos alone aren't super large but there's like 20 years worth of stuff here at this point. My guess is that UER's current file size is somewhere in the single digit terabytes.

The DB’s pretty low-activity these days, but fr00tCake’s been updating this and that location during his downtime at work. He often adds a gallery of Streetview and/or satellite pics to the places he investigates, and sometimes a few links for additional context. In rural areas places tend to be demolished over time, but spots in built-up areas are often redeveloped “as is”, which is gratifying to see when it does happen. Of course the DB’ll never be brought fully up to date, even with a horde of volunteers like him, but he’s updated a good fifty (or even 100?) places so far. It’s been pretty interesting following his work.

Have a great day, everybody.

Closer to 300 lol. I literally just counted.

296 LDB entries have had their status changed to demolished, repurposed, or back to original purpose (active), and those are just the ones I added street/satellite images to. I've added history, links, coordinates, owners, etc. to far more than that. I started editing a couple years ago, but have been really active over the last 10mo or so. Note - I ONLY change status of those I have actual proof of, by way of street/sat images, or can find a news article confirming that demo/renovation actually happened (NOT going to happen).

Here is a link to everything that I updated that includes street/sat images. Have a looky-lou and scan down the list. Many of you are familiar with or have been to these locations, and may not even know they are gone or renovated. A few still active folks have even created or added pics to these locations:
