I missed out on doing a year-end thread last year, and I wasn't originally going to do one this year either. But seeing everyone else's put me in the mood. I visited fewer places this year than ever before, but I still ended up with a metric butt-ton of images. I also got back into black and white film in a big way this year, so you'll see that those images feature very heavily. Enjoy!

Roadside find.

A rather famous hospital I went through like I was on rails, therefore missing some cool spots.

Easily the exploring highlight of my year, so forgive me if I can't narrow down which photos to post more.

Black and white odds and ends. See a pattern?

I flew out to Colorado for a friend's wedding in July, and made a loop down through New Mexico afterwards. This is one of my favorite parts of the country, and I loved getting to return with an exploring mindset.

Some decay associated with a legendary local art colony.

My other big industrial location of the year. It's hard to know what to say about this place, as it's an ugly blot on the landscape while at the same time being extremely interesting and photogenic.

More unassociated film.

A sprawling car graveyard strewn across a wide area of hillside. It looks like nothing at all from the road, but keeps going and going.

I was lucky enough to get permission to photograph this residential school on a mountain top in the absolute middle of nowhere.

My last location of the year came as a surprise, with a small local museum having a far better collection than imagined, and some lovely decaying goodies tucked out back.

Here's to a successful and fun 2022 for you all!

Great stuff, nice helping of industry! Love the crisp high-key edits on a lot of these. Any idea how dangerous the visit to the moon rock factory was? I'm so intrigued by that place but it does scare me away from visiting it being what it is.

Feelin' #18, I've been cooped up in the city for most of the last two months, really looking forward to long days in wide open spaces.

Killer set, that ain't a bad year at all.

Thanks very much for the kind words, everyone! Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll be able to be as active as I have in past years, due to location and life considerations, but I still want this hobby, and this site, to stay a part of my life. Hopefully the new year will bring better opportunities to get out there!

In general I would say it's not any more dangerous than any other badly contaminated industrial location. I did take more precautions than usual, including wearing a p100 mask both indoors and outdoors on the property (which sucked), plus wearing old clothes which I threw out afterwards and hosing my boots off thoroughly. I also visited after several days of rain, which seemed to keep the dust down. I think the possibility of getting noticed by the neighbors and chased off is just as much of a safety concern as the contaminants themselves. I highly recommend it, though. The main building itself isn't the most spectacular industrial structure out there, but the property as a whole is really a sight to see, very alien.
