|
Here's the update (quick facts). The UER Store has seen: - 70 orders in 9 months
- 44 from USA, 25 from Canada, 1 from Australia
- 561 decals mailed out
- Currently the store is 74% of the way to turning a profit.
And now in more detail: - Today I adjusted some of the prices to make less popular decals more affordable
- I just sold out of Large Kirkbride design decals, while supplies of the Infiltration logo and website hex pattern decals are also dwindling (4 and 11 decals, respectively)
- I've received orders from folks that didn't even know about UER, and one from someone who found UER through the Etsy site
- Running a store like this one is a long game. Investing in inventory ($600 of my own money) with the potential to eventually cover all of Av's costs.
- Buying decals in bulk saves money, so I end up with things like 96 Barn of Doom decals to move.. It also means I need to think orders through carefully and order lots of product in long intervals.
- Because the store hasn't broken even yet, another order means investing more flySparro cash, at the risk of slump sales, but also with the potential of bringing in good money for UER. It could go either way.
- I would like to include some more decals (like this or this) but it is difficult to know how they would sell.
- I have added Donation 10 and Donation 25 items on the store for folks that want to get a lot of decals for their money and just pay a nice round amount. Better value than any of the combo packs.
- Please take the time to submit thoughts on decals to this thread. Possible thoughts include:
- "I'd love to see a UER _______, I'd buy it in a second"
- "I would order ten decals of IndoAnomaly's butt"
- "I think you should produce the ______ decal that ______ designed!"
Providing feedback helps me avoid producing items that nobody would buy, and keep you, the explorers, satisfied and loaded with cool swag.
Thanks for reading! Visit the UER Store on Etsy and share your thoughts on future swag.

| | | Hey all! New decal order coming soon. Not anticipating any changes to the current stock, gonna load up on Infiltration, kirkbride and hex decals because those seem to be the profitable ones. Okay next up: SHIRTS. Woohoo! First of all let's talk quality, I'm aiming for an American Apparel 50/25/25 blend, which is a really soft and worn-in type feeling shirt. It has a little bit of stretch and sits nicely. Print wise, I can see three different ways to print the shirts.
- Dye, where the print is printed by either black dye on the shirt, or if on a black shirt, the design is bleached and then dyed to get a colour lighter than black.
- Ink, where the ink is thicker and somewhat rubbery. Gives a nice pop and durability to white designs printed on black, but not to be printed too large.
- Vinyl, where the design is done in vinyl and heat transferred to the shirt. Decent durability, good colour, has different texture and sometimes care requirements from dye, which can be a nice gloss, but can also peel off if you aren't careful.
Here are my references for the print types: 1. Dye (black on grey, red on black) The grey shirt is an American Apparel 50/25/25: 2. Ink (more rubbery, colour on black) 3. Vinyl (black on black) This shirt is also an American Apparel 50/25/25: And now for the designs! 1. Join the Yacht Club 2. UER 1/4 chest logo 3. MH Cover circular 1/4 chest 4. Hex, chest, large 5. Hex, lower right 6. Infil 1/4 chest logo, army green shirt 7. BANDOS BANDOS BANDOS chest large 8. NO POE chest, white shirt 9. NO POE chest, black shirt 10. Kirkbride chest 11. Kirkbride abstract 12. UER logo, large, vinyl or dye 13. UER logo, large, dyed Logistics:
- I'm going to aim for the $20-25 CAD mark, depending on cost to produce
- I want these to be comfortable shirts that you will enjoy wearing, unlike some cruddy random cotton tees I have in my closet
- Shipping will obviously be more. I will look into having a US distributor
- I have yet to sort out sizing. I imagine a handful of Sm, and then an even split between M and L, and a few XL + 2XL.
- Packaging will hopefully be fully recyclable. I hate single-use packaging.
- Still waiting to be legitimized with the ability to add swag stars. Maybe one day.. *sigh*
Discuss the shirts and what you would consider ordering, suggest new designs, or give me shit for my mediocre work here. Please. Just write anything. It's honestly nice to not be designing and posting into a void. Looking forward to any and all feedback. Happy 'sploring! Sincerely, // Sparro

Is it a good idea to advertise UER on t-shirts? I already only put the stickers I buy on discrete locations that only I see (like the inside of my camera bag) so I don't accidentally attract any unwanted attention to UER. I'm all for UER growing an expanding with new members but I feel like t-shirts could attract taggers and Instagram people to the site.
|
Easy solution: Don't wear the shirt AND explain what it is, if think you might be standing in front of scrappers, taggers or Instagram bois. So: Wear the shirt everywhere, just tell people it stands for United Electronic Recycling (a real company based in Texas) or tell them you participated in Earth Day ( earthday.org) by being an Urban Environment Reporter OR Continue to tell people when appropriate, and just be selective about wearing the shirt to functions like work christmas parties. For instance, do not wear the shirt to your job at a spraypaint store, anywhere that sells Yeezys, or your induction ceremony with the police academy.

| Hi! I ordered some Infiltration decals (on Etsy) quite a while ago and haven't received them yet. Will you be able to fulfill it soon? Thanks!

| | | Shirts: I like 4, 5 (probably my favorite), and 6 the most. 7 and 8 went over my head (no idea what they mean). Sorry, I suck at critiquing, lol. ***************************************** I love it. I ordered the decals way back when and still have them. I think it's so awesome that you have taken the initiative to do this for Av and for all of us. That really says a lot about you, IMO. It's people like you that give me hope that all is not lost here in the wake a new era of likes and follows! Thank you for all your hard work (and I'm definitely getting a shirt)! Great job!! - DA
