Welcome to the Sariputta Holdings Corp mushroom composting facility. Sariputta bought the facility on April 1 2005 from Money's Mushrooms ltd. It had been operating since 1999. I am not sure when it closed, although i did find out they had ongoing issues with the ability to maintain negative pressure within the facility. therefore uncontrolled and untreated odour release most likely caused the place to be shut down.

Main concrete structure is 31200 sq ft, one water reservoir is for clear water and is nearly empty, the other reservoir one with the concrete slab on top. I am not sure whats is in it. But it is full to the brim and has a really nasty smell once you get on top near one of the openings.

Some of you may have heard...but a few people died a few years ago on a 'shroom farm in the lower mainland...and the hammer came down on mushroom farms. I wonder if that came into play here. Cool pix!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Very nice pics. I'm not sure how much of an issue it is with a farm that's shut down, but the deaths at the active farms were caused by hydrogen sulphide, which is really nasty stuff. Every UEr should know about it, especially those who do drains and sewers.

It is the dangers of confined spaces. In the case of this facility, unless you wanna swim in the mysterious liquid, you have little to worry. Fortunately for me, with my line of work I usually have access to multi-gas monitors. Not a bad thing to have. Example : A 4 gas monitor checks oxygen level, Co2, H2S (hydrogen sulphide) and LEL (lower explosive level).

Unfortunately 4 and 6 gas monitors are fairly pricey, $1000+. But they can also be rented.

Most important thing to keep in mind is 60% of death in confined spaces are would be rescuers. If you see your buddy drop, automatic reaction is to go in to help... Resist doing so and call the fire department.

I havent been there since i took the pictures. As of this summer the main gate was wide open without any security.

Youd have to go and find out for yourself.

Went here today with my sister at about 8:30 PM, the gates are closed, and there was a car inside, with a man sitting in the building ahead of the gates with the lights on, far as we could tell, its now owned by someone.
