Posted by neptix Very nice pics. I'm not sure how much of an issue it is with a farm that's shut down, but the deaths at the active farms were caused by hydrogen sulphide, which is really nasty stuff. Every UEr should know about it, especially those who do drains and sewers. http://en.wikipedi...i/Hydrogen_sulfide neptix

It is the dangers of confined spaces. In the case of this facility, unless you wanna swim in the mysterious liquid, you have little to worry. Fortunately for me, with my line of work I usually have access to multi-gas monitors. Not a bad thing to have. Example : A 4 gas monitor checks oxygen level, Co2, H2S (hydrogen sulphide) and LEL (lower explosive level).
Unfortunately 4 and 6 gas monitors are fairly pricey, $1000+. But they can also be rented.
Most important thing to keep in mind is 60% of death in confined spaces are would be rescuers. If you see your buddy drop, automatic reaction is to go in to help... Resist doing so and call the fire department.
