| | | Hello all. My friend is working on her final project for her photography class at school here and she's decided to do abandoned sites for her project. I know of only a couple country farm houses that have been abandoned as well as the old Parkland hospital. I live in Plano, TX (near Dallas) but the surrounding cities and towns are all within driving range . I was wondering if any of you folks had suggestions for the project (more sites or tips for photography or safety), and I'll be sure to post up the pictures of whatever we turn up for the project (and the grade). Thanks in advance. [last edit 12/10/2005 11:09 PM by LoganAlex - edited 2 times]

| | | What, specifically is she looking for in an abandonment? Graffiti? Structural demise? Homeless? Quantity? (lots of structures) Historical significance? Architectural uniqueness? SS

| | | She mostly is looking for an emotional impact and visual interest. The buildings aren't going to be named, nor is there that much of a coherent theme. I suppose if you had to nail it down it would be the most beautiful decay possible, something that makes a location unique. Though I would guess the older the better.

| | | You could get the whole story just from one location. Abandonments is too broad, unless you just shoot exteriors of abandoned places. Right now, I am working on photos for a show - but the photos are focused on one place - some local Stockyards. the photos tell a story, create a mood, of what used to happen there. if I would shoot something from someplace else, the feeling of that shot wouldn't match. The focus needs to be more obvious. Maybe picking one place and documenting the history through the lense would make a much stronger set of photos.

Agreed, I'm working on a similar project but extending mine to include a small town. Mostly buildings from about 1910-1930. Contrasting the current condition of the various types of buildings - homes, churches, factory, retail, etc. that were built around the same time.
