| | | Great! They had a huge one in the old Adam Hats building.

| | | We found this setup a while back. That's coffinnail on a seat cushion.
This one was in the Santa Fe Storage building. I don't know if it was for people or parts. [last edit 4/2/2009 4:19 AM by Barry Kooda - edited 1 times]

| | | Great find! It has been 30+ years since I have seen on of those. There was one in a old department store I went to as a kid. They also had a tube for money when you payed. Give your money to the checkout lady and she would put the money in the tube and send it up to the top floor. Someone up there would make change and send it back down. There was no money kept on the sales floor. I had to search on fire chutes. http://www.escape-chute-systems.com/ They do not look as much fun.

| | | a bit off-topic, but related--check out the city museum in st. louis (citymuseum.org) its a multi-level warehouse that is essentially a giant playground for kids and adults--slides that go between stories, huge exposed cat-walks.... really interesting--my lame description does not do it justice

| | | The school I went to in Fort Smith in the '70s had a fire escape chute. I was so looking forward to 4th grade, because then I'd have class upstairs and I'd get to slide down during fire drills. But we moved to Tulsa in the middle of 3rd grade. I've been maladjusted ever since -- wonder if that's why I'm hooked on drains.

| | | Those vertical "sock" type chutes look awesome, even if the site designers can't always spell, and the "WHY NO CHUTE" page isn't lying when it says the images of people trapped in a high-rise fire might be disturbing to some viewers. They should install one of those alongside each pillar of Reunion Tower, and charge people $10 a head to take the "express exit". Maybe $20. I'd do it. Musket Boy, of course, would simply float down like he always does (or at least, that's the only way *I* can figure he gets down).

I don't know, I was freaked out when I first saw them. Pushing out to slow you down, I am not sure. Looks like a riot but I still have to think about sailing to the ground like a stone in a clothes dryer vent.

| | | I was in another hotel that had a chute that resembles the Multi Entry Tube System. Shit went straight down and appeared that it was a dirty clothes chute ? The website doesn't tell you whats at the bottom to slow you down on the METS system ? [last edit 4/3/2009 1:19 AM by Secretsquirrel - edited 1 times]

| | | I was the first person down that slide in who knows how long maybe 20 years needless to say my pants were trashed but it was worth it and I got it all on video. I had never seen or even heard of such a cool fire escape. If I ever had to use an escape like this in a real fire I think I would go back into the burning building just to ride it again. lol
