| | | Sorry, welding trip has not been made yet. We are still planning. We have to make one more trip to make final preparations. It's taking us a bit because this place isn't exactly down the street, and this operation is going to involve more people than usual, so coordinating schedules is a bit more difficult. It'll be about 2 weeks before that final trip.

| | | I will be out of it for a short while (I was the guy with the cutting rig to slice thru the metal strapping) .. I totally wrecked my wrist, with a fractured Radius, shattered Ulna, almost 2 1/2 hours in surgery so they could place some titanium butterflies .. got a couple stiches and while I was able to escape it without a cast, I have a brace (it actually gives more support then a cast for wrist fractures) and I don't even want to attempt a long drive, carrying some rather heavy gear from the safe parking area to the site, and then only really have one working hand to do some work that really requires a good grip with 2 hands .. plus it could even be dangerous if I had to fall and catch myself on such a nasty wound .. I don't plan to wait multiple months but I want to give it a little time.. Sorry .. It wasn't a UE related injury either if anyone was afraid of an injury on a site.. //p

| | | Oh, it will most certainly still be done. Seeing as PhreeX will be out of commision for a bit, we will most likely attempt it on our own. I was there just the other day doing some final planning and working out some aspects of it. This is gonna be a relatively big operation, and there are alot of possible dangers that we need to plan for. It's finally starting to come together and you guys will know about it sooner than you think. Think of it this way, if I just went charging in there and didn't take the time to take the proper precautions, and died as a result, then you'd probably never get to see the pics.

| | | Damn you all for sucking me into this whole Florida door topic. Ever since I read the original thread I've been sitting on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails waiting for somebody, ANYBODY to go down there and pop that door open. Sorry to hear about your hand PhreeX. Hope it heals up real quick. As for the rest of you, no matter how much we all whine and complain about wanting to see this artifact, I completely agree with Shane. Safety first.

| | | After reading ALL the posts on the original thread, I would have to say, GO FOR IT! But, the door must be resealed afterwards and what ever the relic is, it also must be left in the same condition as you found it. Take nothing but pictures, but you HAVE to post the here as soon as you get back...

| | | I was just kidding. Seeing if I could get anybody riled up. Yeah, it is actually a very cool find, and I am exited to see a full write-up and photos once it is fully explored. And I'll give 10-1 odds to anybody who wants to bet it doesnt exist

| | | I also have read all the posts from the previous thread, and am mightily curious. Mostly I'm mightily curious about the people who had no idea of what the thing is, who later seemed to gain an insight to what it is. But, given that I have some unplanned time after OPE'94 and would like to head down to Florida to photograph the old abandoned launch platforms, I'd like to ask: Will it be accessible after June? Would you be willing to show it to me? But most important; Is this thing worth a side trip to see? I mean given that I've already explored an abandoned space shuttle and a few other things, is it still worth the trip? I hope this does not turn out to be a hoax, I'd hate to head down to Florida and find out I'd wasted my money. I'm also surprised that no one else has made a formal "can you show this to me once made public" type request.

| | | Seriously, I don't see how revealing a tad more info on this location could hurt. You don't have to reveal what's in it, or where it is. Maybe just a very vague idea as to what it is related to? That could hardly compromise the location. Assuming that people who have NO idea where it is, are going to drive out into the everglades and start looking for this door in a completely arbitrary manner, is just silly. No one is going to find it unless they know where to look. What is the point about even talking about it at all, if you arent going to reveal any details? You're just being a tease. You should have just kept the entire thing secret until you make it in. I have a feeling the original topic was just created just for bragging purposes. I'm wondering if you're even going to tell us about the place, after you do make it in. Why not just keep it a secret forever? You don't want someone ruining your great discovery. You guys are being way to pretentious about this whole issue. [last edit 3/7/2004 12:04 AM by Rust - edited 1 times]
