| | | I have several flashlights. I found a nice Energizer on clearance at Walmart... It's shock-proof to 10 feet or something along those lines. Nice, bright, standard bulb. 2D, but good. Can focus well to throw light far or spread it well. I also use a small 2AA Rayovac Xenon flashlight. This little bugger is OUTSTANDING. Provides a really far-throwing light and can be picked up at most Walmarts for like $5-$10. Battery life is great, too. The newest addition to my flashlight family is the Stanley MaxLife 369 Tripod Flashlight, as seen here: http://www.stanley...+Tripod+Flashlight This has 6 1-watt LEDs that can be lit up 1, 3, or 6 at a time. You can load 3, 6, or 9 AA batteries into the legs, which also fold out to stand it up, and it has a low battery warning light. All very useful features!

| | | Ok, time for some beam shots. the lights i have here, 1. a 20w mr16 halogen bulb, in a home made head mount, and a 8 amp hour lead aced battery(read brick) used for light panting and for the bike. 2. is my modded UF 606a, running off 2 aa's, this light can also run off 1 cr2 li-on cell(see pic of light in this mode) and is a bit brighter on it, way smaller, and has a run time of about 15 minutes, 1 hour+ on hi mode with 2 aa. 3. the mini mag, running off the same 2 aa's as the 606a, using a new bulb(the one in the tall cap) and focus set to spot. The camera is locked at 4.0 seconds at 65 feet away from the truck. there was a full moon out, thats why the background looks bright, but the brightness of the lights is about right. CR2 mode this one is me using the 20w mr16 light underground

| | | I havent had any problems with my 3D Maglite. It's worked well in photos. I've dropped it a few times and bashed shit with it and it hasn't stopped. It's pretty much waterproof although I've never taken it swimming. Battery life has been pretty awesome (I still bring backup if I know the place will be extra dark or take longer than an hour). The weight really doesn't bother me, I used to carry it literally all the time in my bag and yeah I did feel more safe having a brick of a flashlight in my bag. I live in Toronto, not the worst city, but I know at least 4 people who have been mugged, and myself having nearly been mugged. I carried it all the time because I used to go exploring every time I had more than an hour to blow between classes, so I also don't find it hard to conceal, it fit perfectly in the bottom of my bag, and it's quick to access when I need it. The beam is good, it has excellent throw, in lawrence station attic I could just barely see the entire length of the attic above the platform, so basically the length of 6 subway cars, on a fresh set of batteries. Plus I'm pretty sure I bought for less than $50 at Canadian Tire, and I can get fresh batteries and bulbs for it really easily, in short notice, from any Canadian Tire along the way to a site. Yeah. Why throw away money on something you might lose/break/ditch.

| | | Well, we just experienced a blackout in the early evening, when a tree fell on lines somewhere nearby. Quickly grabbed JetBeam Jet III Pro and ST for my wife and myself, threw my three-year-old a Solarforce L2, and my eighteen-month-old a Romisen RC-G2. Immediate crisis stabilised. Pulled out the big rechargeable fluoro, to more easily get the kids dressed, gave my wife the ZebraLight H50 headlamp so she could better finish what she was doing before the power outage, and then we went for a walk. Had a chat to the neighbours, who were guiding themselves by mobile phone screens - fortunately I had my other L2, plus a couple of spare lights in my pocket. Around the neighbourhood we roamed, dazzling beams blinding oncoming traffic and signalling aircraft. In the end, the outage only lasted about an hour. But that hour was the validation of my apparent lighting fetish. An hour of glory. And to those who disparagingly claimed I was crazy, I say: Who's crazy now? WHO'S CRAZY NOW??!!
