| | | New / Old Location... I was searching the web for historical information today on the Elmwood Sanitorium in Fort Worth, and came across this 2003 description on a FW forum of what sounds like a sanitArium near Roanoke: I believe the structure you are talking about is near Roanoke just off 377. There's a building and a cemetery and also some streets left from a failed subdivision out there, and that's the place everyone used to go to drink beer and listen to Metallica and tell spooky stories about the "crazy people" that lived in the home. I believe it is somewhere near Byron Nelson and Litsey, in that general vicinity. A gentleman I know from www.texasfishinginfo.com told me that there is some kind of plan to redevelop out there, I just don't know if that will include the home or not. By the way, if you're not familiar with that area, you're going to have a heckuva time getting on Litsey from 377. The best way I know to explain it is that you'll need to come off 377 and drive into the heart of Roanoke and get on Business 114, then head west to find Litsey. I think. Does anybody know anything about such a place? I searched the area with maps.live.com birdseye view to no avail, but it sounds like an interesting location to explore, if it still exists.

Maybe since there is construction near, it's already been demo'd.

| | | i grew up in this area and i don't recall seeing or hearing of anything like that around Roanoke. the nearest cemetery i can think of off the top of my head is the old Elizabeth cemetery up to the north west, but there was never anything around there, check google maps, shows an open field where the new subdivision is. there is what looks like just a trailer home and a junk lot back in the woods behind it though, no structure to speak of but in later satt. images its all been cleaned up. Theres quite a bit of information on the web about it but it was bulldozed a year or so ago. Nothing left to look at.
