| | | | Citrus Packing Plant - Part 1, Exteriors < on 6/24/2008 10:04 PM >
| | | Here's an ariel view of my most recent exploration. Just thought I'd give a little preview of my next post. I'm just working on processing the pictures. This old citrus packing plant is about 40 miles NE of Orlando on Hwy 17. I'm not sure if it's been posted in UER before, didn't find anything in the Forum Search or the LDB, but I know I can't see all the locations because I'm a new member. Unfortunately I only had time for buildings 6, 8, 9 & 14. I'm really hoping to get back soon. Pics to follow, hopefully by tomorrow.

| | | Ok, here we go... Starting with exterior shots. I'll probably separate the other images into different threads so they don't take so long to load. We walked the roadside perimeter first (we = my three nephews and I...their parents would probably kill me! But they were so very excited and followed my every instruction). The entire roadside perimeter has barbed wire fencing (easily bypassed) and No Trespassing signs about every 10 ft. Because of this, we decided to find an alternate way in..we didn't want to be seen coming in straight off the road. After a bit more scouting we discovered an unpaved service road that runs along the side and around the back of the property so we entered that way. No signs or fencing there. On this trip I limited my exterior shots to those that could be taken either outside the property or inside the property without being seen from the road. It wasn't worth the risk of being caught while my nephews were with me.
1. Building #6 with Building #10 in the distance. They are attached by some sort of chute.
2. Building #6
3. Building #6
4. Water Tower with Buildings #8 and #9 behind.
5. Building #10. You can see the chute here that connects to Building #6. And building #11 just peeking out behind the trees.
6. Now we've driven around the back using the service road and this lovely sight confronted us as we hopped out of the truck. From the neatness of the cut in the hide, I am assuming this deer was a victim of a hunter who skinned and cleaned the animal on-site. Hunting wasn't permitted in this area, so I suppose they thought they would be less likely to get caught if they didn't cart home the entire deer.
7. Approaching from the rear of the property. Building #9 straight ahead and #14 to the left.
8. Close-up of Building #14 and the tank. I'm really not sure what it would have held. I am doubting it was for water..because they had a water tower. The inside of Building #14, which this tank is behind, didn't give any clue.
9. Small wooden shed and another tank just to the side of Building #7. We didn't investigate this building any further as we really wanted to get into Building #6, the big one, before we ran out of time.
That's all the exteriors for this trip. Next post will have interiors.

| | | Indeed, the very one! Excellent pics you have of it. (I'm assuming they are yours). I'm itching to get back and see the rest of it. I was really limited with time. Need to find a baby-free time and someone to go with me. Not a place I really want to explore alone...as much as I'd like to. [last edit 6/25/2008 5:38 PM by CanoeGuru - edited 1 times]

| | | Dude I took a huge messy dump in that place 3 years ago. I'm sure you still don't want to be in there.

| | | Ah, so that's what that horrid stench was. You could have at least kept it confined to one area, man...no need spreading your sh*t all over the place. ; )

| | | It was in one area, the women's room in Bldg 6 in your photo. If the water was running I would have had to kick it down with my boot. And Smelly McNevershowers was responsible for the rest. He lived in the area and never changed clothes all weekend we were there.

| | | I remember reading someone had purchased this place and was planning on restoring all the buildings and opening up a citrus museum here. I guess that obviously hasn't happened yet...

| | | From the bit of research I've done it does seem to be privately owned and designated a "historical landmark". I would be really surprised if someone actually went through with restoring it. The area around it is rather depressed and I can't see a citrus museum being much of a draw. But...stranger things have happened.

| | | I tried not to get that close, and I think ETMJ noticed he was wearing the same clothes before I did. I was hoping he'd have gotten so drunk that he accidentally tripped and fell into the shower. It would have to be an accident to get him near soap AND water at the same time.....
