| | Camelot hotel, soon to be demolished, set on fire before demolition < on 9/24/2007 12:23 AM >
| | | Way before I got into urban exploration I always wanted to look inside the camelot hotel, but the fear of asbestos kept me out. When I finally got around to explore it they had already gutted the place and had it set for demolition. So I stopped by the place on the way home from the DMV (THE HORROR!!) and decided to ask the people preparing the place for demolition would let me in to take pictures. As luck would have it they told me to leave immediatly.. Not wanting to push my luck, or get a lung full of asbestos I took some pictures of the outside and left. I dont have any masks or anything like that by the way. A few weeks after I took the pictures I heard on the news that the place caught on fire. So anyways here are a few exterior pictures and the pictures from a local news station of the place being set on fire
Here are the pictures from the news webpage.
Here is the link to the news website for those who are interested. http://kotv.com/ne...l/story/?id=136220 I'm not even sure if Camelot is even standing anymore and if it is then it wont be around more then a week or two. It is very dangerous to explore this place now because of the fire and the demolition so I wouldnt recommend it.

| | | The mattresses and carpets they were tossing out of the building caught fire. I have either heard the fire happened inside the building or on a roof. Honestly it could have been meth lab residue. The asbestos problem in there was so bad the cops would not even go in, nor the fire department in the months prior to demolition.

| | | I looked at all the links on the news website. Interesting place. It's a shame that the attempts to restore it never came about. So many of these old landmarks (like I'm afraid will end up happening to one of my favorite places) end up with all sorts of good intentioned restoration efforts, only to eventually fall to the wrecking ball.

| | | I found a website with a lot of info of the hotel. http://www.gtrnews...had-a-quick-demise Basically the hotel was sold many times until the last owner bought it with plans on using it for some kind of school but he never actually did anything. Now the hotel is being demolished for a Quik-Trip. Like we need another Quik-Trip, its not like theres not already one on every block.

| | | There's a Camelot Inn off I40 in Amarillo, it's still operational and looks similar, just smaller. I wonder if they had the same owners...
