| | | WTF is this? < on 7/6/2007 2:09 AM >
| | | This is in City Park in New Orleans near Storyland. It seems like it might be a pool. There is one of these on either side.
This shows the back of those stair things, notice the square hole thing, there are pipes and whatnot in there.
Then theres this. A weird zigzag bridge type thing across the middle.
Except for here where it's broken.
So, what is it? Anyone know? It seems weird to have a random abandonment in the middle of a city park but hey, it's New Orleans. j.

| | | My guess would be some kind of large water fountain, with water cascading off the stair step shaped wall. THe pipes inside would indicate to me that water was pumped to the top ledge and then it would run back down into the main pool. If not that, I don't know. | | | No, wide open. No fence, no nothing. And as for a fountain, maybe but it was the size of a smallish pool and prolly 4 feet deep or so. j.

That's not that uncommon for the size of some city park pools. Well, 4 feet might be a little unusually deep though.

My wife had climbed up on those stair things and said there was no where for water to come out that she saw so maybe not a fountain after all. j.

| | | I know exactly what that is. It is the remnants of the old Irby swimming pool complex built in 1924. It was finally torn down after katrina. The place was creepy and overgrown with a million racoons living there. I explored it about 10 years ago. It fell into disuse in the 1960's and just sat there abandoned for over 30 years.

| | | Katrina left City Park looking pretty bad. A lot of the 100 year old oak trees died from the contaminated floodwater. More recently, it's not looking so bad. There's been a lot of cleanup. Most of the buildings are historic, so I guess they're renovating everything.
