| | | well, when we were there in october, there was electrical service. there was a transformer on the ground buzzing away behind some of the offices, and we heard an AC compressor turn on, in the opposite direction from the condos.

| | | I have a friend who went to Splendid China a few weeks ago. Almost the same thing happened to him. He told me he saw some people in a pickup truck with a cutting tool chopping the arms off of one of those "Shiva statues". He thought it was odd...you would think they would just cut it off the base to resell it right? He thought they were just people who got in that were ripping off the place to get scrap metal. Well one person in the group was spotted by the people in the pickup so they ran away and jumped the wall. Later they went back in again thinking the people in the pickup would not do anything! lol Shortly later the place was full of police, roadblocks all over, and they even sent helicopters! They were able to make it out of there without getting caught, though I have no idea how. I am going to see if I can get him to tell his story here. It is pretty wild. I vote to leave.

| | | Hey Im actually the Friend that Mogwai was talking about! I went to Splendid China with 3 friends and went in through a hole in the wall (I prefer not entering anywhere a 'No Trespassing' sign is visible to play ignorant if im caught!). Well, once inside we realized this place is large and surprisingly for the most part intact! I was here in 2001 so i remember how it used to look. We had about 1 1/2 to 2 hours of uninterrupted time where we took photos and leisurely walked around taking in the amazing place. When we got to the middle of the park however, a friend of mine who was taking photos a bit ahead of us came running back towards us saying "we gotta go! there's a truck inside! go now!" we took off towards the bathrooms to hide out for a bit, since the exit was a long way away at this point.
Well, during the run we chose to just jump a gate and leave the area, so we jumped a fence and left. But then seeing new areas of the park from the outside, I was dying to go back in. (We suspected that the people we saw were trashmen or construction crew guys, they in no way looked like authority, but a clean up crew) So a friend and I snuck back in while the 2 others decided to walk to the car and pick us up when we were done taking photos. As we walked in though, we immediately heard what we thought were chainsaws running. so, as to not be slowed down while sneaking around, we hid our cameras in an underground section (sort of like the underground areas in aquariums to see the dolphins) and proceeded to creep around the great wall of china to see what was happening. well, it turns out that the crew in the pickup were cutting off the arms of that famous statue you see in Splendid China promo postcards. We decided to stop sneaking around thinking that if we got caught, these guys weren't the type to call police. So as we start getting our equipment back, my friend in the car calls me to tell me that the red pick up has driven to the front and looks like he's police. So we picked up speed and after a long run we make it to a gate where we can get out. I get called again, and he talles me "Dude, get out.... Police are here, ALOT" Well, as soon as I jump the fence, I notice a squad car with lights on flying down the road towrds us, so we pretend to be a tourist couple taking a stroll and I begin taking pictures of her. the car flies past us and turns down the road. my friend calls me again and this time says "forget walking down to the car, there's at least 3 cop cars here and more are on the way to your area." The worst part is that we were the ONLY people in the vicinity! I immediatley took out my memory card from my camera, but realized i didn't bring a spare to replace it with in case im caught, so we turned around and walked to the closest place to hide in, a gated community :-/ as we turn the corner, we realize how serious this is, the police are blocking roads, blocking exits to splendid china, and are patrolling the streets. Our friends ended up picking us up and we drove off while obeying all the rules of the road. and as soon as we started driving away, we see sheriff's choppers arriving on the scene..... no lie. All in all, I urge you to not go there. It's a great place to visit, and amazing place to take photos, But it seems the reprecussions of getting caught there are too much, at least for me. I was almost scared that I'd be shot on site if i got caught. Too Much risk. While driving we joked about what kind of secret govt work was going on in there because the police force that showed up was almost comical. I'll post the pics i have up to show you what it looks like inside.

| | | there's a chance that they were scrappers and were the ones they were after, not you. i do believe that everything from the auction has been removed, leaving only the things to be reused in the formosa gardens community. if this is the case, then maybe the few of us that want to see the rest of the park need to see it now. when we were there back in october, there were fairly fresh tire tracks everywhere. some were car tire tracks, and others were truck tire tracks. there were a couple areas with heavy equipment tracks. so i guess they are finally tearing the place down.

| | | this story saddens me and weighs heavy on my bowels. those cops were not after you but were after the other people inside. the thing i dont understand is, how did they get past security at the hotel. as far as i know, thats the only way to get a car/truck into the park. that is unless they got in from the back service road. im so sick of scrappers. they ruin everything.

This makes a lot more sense than sending helicopters to get a few kids walking around. lol Maybe security was in the bathroom? Who knows.

| | | I also thought they might be illegally there, but i doubt it. They did look like "Bithlo" type guys (if you live in orlando, you know what i mean), complete with confederate flag arm tattoos and all. But according to my friend who called me, they had driven to the front of splendid china and got on the phone with someone while sitting on the hood of their red pickup, as if they were waiting for that person. And last i remember, they had put one of the statues arms in the back of the truck. I remember walking towards the maintenance area, and all the locks were securely in place. and while i was inside, the last time i saw them and the truck, they had driven both cars to the maintenance gate at the far end of the park and were having some kind of argument. Now i can't confirm that they ever came face to face with police, because im just relying on what was being told to me by my buddy on the phone, but knowing that they had previously seen us inside, they must have just decided to wait outside and tell police some outrageous story, such as a large gang was inside, or that we were stealing items there.
