| | (minute maid?) ball park area, houston < on 7/1/2006 1:04 AM >
| | | or at least it was sponsored by some orange juice affiliated company... can't remember. i was too busy looking at the rather large abandonments in the outlying areas. i was wandering thru that side of houston in search of bug spray and instead found two intriguing buildings. it was dusk, and some shady looking dudes were roaming about, so i cut my scouting short. to avoid another mishap such as i encountered in atlanta (http://www.uer.ca/...d=3&threadid=33301), someone please let me know about any potential crack dealers inside that may fancy pounding my ue'ing ass. i have one shitty photo in case it helps id the place i'm talking about.
[warning! gripe approaching] i wouldn't have to do this if i was a full member...

I don't think there are any explorers in this region at least not helpful ones. Tag is the only guy who has offered me any information in the Houston area and he just moved here. So the community is looking pretty thin in Houston.

| | | Tag, I remember that building. It didn't have the juice company stuff on it until the ballpark baloney started. It was an assembly plant for something, and for the life of me I can't remember what. I believe that it was built during the first Houston boom during the late 40's. I can't comment on any dangers specific to that building, because I haven't lived there in over 10 years, but that whole part of Houston is pretty dodgy after dark, so I'd be careful. If I'm not mistaken, the freight door was a little shaky back in the day. Might check it out.

A fairly weak analysis but what ever, its as good an excuse as most. Like Drie said: exploring is cool. You should try it sometime. No "helpful explorers" required just a little guts and some ambition.

| | | I did just fine here by myself. But I can't share credit for it with the locals. It's going to look kind of weird when the Houston/Galveston locations in the UER database are put there by a Northerner.

| | | It is a shame there aren't more explorers in Texas. I'm over 500 miles away from Houston. But I think since this site is more geared toward the north, northeast and Canada probably not many Texans post here. Just my opinion though.

| | | There used to be quite a number of Texans posting here. However, they felt that things were amiss here, and I believe they are doing their own thing now. Still exploring, just sans UER.

The Texans are still around, and still exploring, though you are right, many have become disgruntled, for different reasons. I do wish that as Texans, we could work together and communicate better, whether on this forum or somewhere else. The thing about it is though, I know that there are a LOT of UErs in Texas, even in the area I am in, but you rarely see anything from any of us, unless you know where to look. Even me.. I stay somewhat elusive. It's not really good. We're all missing out on a lot of experiences. But right now, I don't know what the answer is. Any suggestions?

true. i deserved the ridicule. but it was ambition, not experience, that brought me to houston with a backpack and a tent and $300. sleeping on the rooftops here altered my perception of what life can be. of course, the excitement has worn thin as always and i'm far less jittery than before. it's been my pleasure to meet and correspond with really great local explorers in houston. i'll look forward to returning here in the future.

Since Texas is such a huge state it's hard to get together. We used to have meet-n-greets,even though I never got to go to one, but I guess that's not happening anymore. I'm stuck up in the panhandle miles away from anywhere. I would love to explore DFW but I wouldn't even know where to start. I really don't have any suggestions, but am here to help if I can.

That quote was not directed at you nor was any ridicule. I always feel compelled to jump in and dismiss the perception that we arent being helpful because we dont just fork over addresses and locations to anyone that asks in a public forum. In fact in a private msg to Mr devil ball I responded by directing him to seek you out for Houston assistance (there 5 or 6 Houstonians on here frequently and several recent threads about Houston) so Im not sure what else I could do to be "helpful".
edit: and yes that was a quite ambitious adventure some of the images you captured were pretty cool too [last edit 9/20/2006 9:18 PM by Explorer Zero - edited 1 times]

| | | I only get to Houston once or twice a year, wish I could offer more, but I just don't know the area that well. Tag, your adventures and your pic are incredible. Keep up the good work. I wish I had the nerve to do what you do....
