| | | "He added most people who ignore the grounds' "no trespassing" signs are simply asked to leave, while those caught destroying property are handed over to police." Hell yeah. But anyway, this sucks. Media attention for us is never good, as far as I've seen.

| | | yeah, the author doesn't exactly do a good job of keeping the slant neutral. It's very difficult to make the hobby sound credible when he's talking about an "anonymous" person, and then highlighting the contrary viewpoint with multiple named sources. this is why good reporters will "name" the source (and say something along the lines of "name changed for privacy") re-read the article, and every place that the author put "the person" or some pronoun, replace it with a name, I suggest Jeff, for obvious reasons. Makes it sound a bit better, doesn't it? like the author talked to an actual person, not some mysterious trench coat-clad Mark Felt. [last edit 7/27/2006 2:44 PM by Mr.Coffee - edited 1 times]

Um, what? But yeah, that poison ivy sounds pretty formidable, and it's a wonder they bother with security at all if they have man-eating plants on the property.

| | | Again it's the vandals that get them fired up. Add B&E to a defiant trespass charge, and some time in jail is a real possibility. Sounds like they're being pretty tolerant, but that article is fair warning. Reporters are always trouble.

| | | I think that it isnt really a suprise to guards/security because if they had some sense, they would know that kids are going into places that arent active anymore. As long as they know we're not vandlist, they wont be as harsh on us. There job is to watch out for the badies that go in and tear up the place.

No, reporters are not always trouble. This article was fairly neutral and not entirely critical of UE. I've said it before and I'll say it again now, reporters are only trouble because we mistrust them so much. We are a fringe group, and nobody likes fringe groups, I don't even like fringe groups. As such, if we're polite, informative, and willing to talk, we will get better coverage. UE might one day have its moment in the sun, and as a member of our community you get to be part of deciding whether it becomes immature criminalism or a happy rainbow smile parade. Are you saying you don't like smiles?

That story helped us how? As for being neutral, disinformation is meant to sound good. I said it sounds like they're being fairly tolerant meaning security, and the cops. You shouldn't believe everything people say; your too easy. It can get expensive to underestimate another's motives.

Half the time I think you're full of shit, but I'm with ya here. I try to tell folks all the time that if we represent ourselves better, we will be recognized as being different than scrappers, vandals and taggers. Quite a few of the Sheriff's Deputies in the counties surrounding me know who I am and what I do, and lately they just wave and drive by.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |
