| | | I was watching a show on the food channel I believe and they were showing off the highlights (tourist traps?) of Austin. Now, while covering the bats in the bridge, they cut down to water level at one end of the bridge, showing off a rather large drain outfall, looked to be around nine feet. Anyone seen it?

| | | Thanks CMH. Yeah, it's an ok tunnel but you have to start crouching pretty quickly from what I remember. It has a nice side tunnel that was made with red brick though. Not a whole lot of interesting features otherwise.

Eh? Doesn't look like a sanitary sewer to me. More like your average storm drain. But considering just about every bridge in Austin is inhabited by bats, I can imagine the place is one huge ammonia-smelling bat toilet.

| | | Actually I don't think many bats use that tunnel mostly because there's not much space in between the pipe seams to hang out. Also, just because it's not a sanitary sewer doesn't mean there won't be human waste in there. Homeless people like privacy too.

Good point. Lucky I don't come across that often. As for the whole bat thing, while I love the critters, I'm severely paranoid about the places they roost ever since I helped a friend out in a bat cave. You could smell the ammonia through a freakin' plasic hazmat suit.
