| | | Hey everyone! I'm getting serious about photography, so I'm looking for any advice I can get. Thanks! Here are a few to tear apart...

| | | In your second photo, I can't tell if it is shadows, or just darker sections of sewer, but they are distracting I think. I think I would like it better if you kept the part of the tunnel closest to the camera as light as the farthest section you can see. The third picture with the broom doesn't really do anything for me. I took a couple of that too, but wasn't really happy with them. I like the first one, and I'm sure somebody else will think of some criticism for it, but I like your lighting on it. Maybe if you took the picture positioned from slightly more to the right, and aimed more to the left - so you can see more down the leftward tunnel, that could have added to it, dunno. Cool stuff!

| | | The first one is my favorite. The focus of it throws me off a little bit. My eyes gravitate towards the center bricks, but I feel like the tunnels are almost the focus. I'm a little torn by it. I love the lighting and detail though. I think the second one could use more of a lighting emphasis on the bricks below. It's what curves and really draws your eyes, but it seems dark compared to the sandstone above. As always, I'm afraid my dark monitor is screwing with my perception though. I actually like the third one. It has an open feel (I love huge open rooms) and I think it would look good as a large print. I can't tell if it's lens distortion or the natural formation, but the pilar looks bent. It's a little distracting. I think you did a good job blocking out the lights and keeping the lighting consistent.

| | | Thanks, guys. #2 was extremely hard to take. I shot a whole roll of this spot using different techniques, and this might have been the best one. Since I couldn't move side to side while painting, I pretty much inevitably showed up in the picture. I tried to light the bricks more in a couple of the takes, but for some reason my light leaked through my hand and ruined them. I'll try it again.

| | | #1 is certainly my favorite of the three. although i would like to see a shot maybe just down one tunnel. i cant get past the symmetry. #2 is a little flat, but i appreciate the lines and the vantage point. i just read your comment about painting the rocks with your fingers. this was a good idea, its unfortunate that you werent able to execute it correctly. #3. is mundane. my eyes arent having a lot of fun with it. its just that theres a a couple walls there, and then blah theres a pillar blocking my view.
you should try to pinpoint exactly what features you like about what you're looking at, then time the frame them and make them stand out. this is what photographers do.

| | | Great photos. All of them seem to be very well composed and thought out. All three of these really draw my eyes through the picture; the effect makes it look like I'm really seeing what's in the picture. Wonderful stuff; I'd love to see more. | | | #1. First one is definitely my favorite, i love to see pictures like this of old sewers that are almost all stone and brick. #2. As for the second one nothing really catches my eye. maybe trying the shot from a lower point, also try to use ur lighting to pull focus to one point of the picture. you did this well in the first shot were the end of the two tunnels are lit up more than the rest of the shot. #3. On the third nothing really catches my eye. if im looking at the pic correctly it looks like their are more columns identical to the main one in the photo running along the length of the pipe. i would like to see a shot of the pipe in the lower right corner of the frame and all the columns running symmetrically beside it (that is if i am interpreting the picture right lol)

I actually did take the shot you were hoping for. Don't know why I didn't post that one instead - I liked it better! If I can find it, I'll post that one. Thanks everyone!
