| | New to the site! Anyone ever heard of Newgulf? < on 6/21/2006 9:57 PM >
| | | Wow.....I've been exploring places for years and years and NEVER knew that my hobby had an actual title... Anyhow....I'm from about 1 hour outside of Houston, just curious if anyone has ever checked out some of the old Texasgulf Sulphur Plant in Newgulf TX?
I plan on posting some pics when I get time!
I love this site... [last edit 6/21/2006 10:01 PM by BGv2.0 - edited 1 times]

| | | I'm here at work...and found a few pics from my last outing. This is the old Hungerford School building....closed, I think in the 1960's.

| | | Sweet site! I'd love to see your others. Just don't give away too much, since this forum is public and we don't want too many people knowing about your sites.
I'm a blatant waste of time and resources. |

| | | Well...I never really thought about not giving specific locations..lol I suppose I'm just really excited about finding this site. As far as I know...yes the school was an elementary school....reminded me of Silent Hill when I was taking the pics...and that was in the day....I'm sure with the ceiling missing it would look QUITE COOL on a moon lit night!
The reason I ask about Newgulf is because it had a host of places to check out...Newgulf was home to the LARGEST SULPHUR deposit in the entire world....the plant that's there was closed in 1993....and the town that was once there was literally transformed to a "ghost town". My home PC is giving me hell about uploading at the moment...I will get some pics of Newgulf up by Friday.

| | | Awesome. Good job, hope to see more. I know where the Sulphur plant is but I've never been there. I'd be interested for sure though.

| | | Google has a lot of stuff on Newgulf. I found a USGS site from there that has aerial and topo maps. The place looks pretty cool!

| | | Finaaly got some free time to load the pics of Newgulf Hospital. The site is no longer there.....as a matter of fact these pics were taken approx. a week before they demolished it. The first two are a few hospital rooms...the third is the elvator shaft, with it stuck between floors. The last is my personal favorite....I took these with a 35mm camera...and had no idea the shot would come out that good. I call it "No Exit".....it's the shot of the long hall that went to the exit in the back of the hospital. These were taken in either '93 or '94.

| | | Hey BGv2.0 glad to see you here, especially since bg version 1.0 really wasnt that great and had all sorts of bugs <just kidding> These sites look great, welcome aboard and hope to hear some more of your explorations. As someone mentioned just be careful of revealing to much info on where places are and such as some on these forums just use them to troll for locations so they can go out tag them with graffiti and and trash them.

| | | Yeah...someone mentioned that above. Well, now I know and "knowing is half the battle". It's not too bad as the Hospital is no longer there and without very specific directions....a person would never find that school. For sure if they were unfamiler with the county...so I think that one is pretty safe as well.

| | | Slim Jim and Noah Vale were there a couple Xmases ago, they tell me that there's not much to see, a few abandoned homes, but they are all identical as it was essentially a company town, and it appeared to be on the mend when they went. A Development company was turning it into another exurb community.

Yeah....it's a shame, but nowadays there is VERY little to check out out there. There are a couple of places but you would have to be local to even know about them. The guys would have LOVED "The Lodge"....it's still there. If they ever make their way back down here, have them contact me through the site...I love to show that one off whenever I can. It was a Lodge where Co. CEO's and international big wigs would stay....it's in very good shape to this day. Most of the homes are now gone, and there are some HUGE nice homes coming up....the plant although now a coal generator still has a LOT of places to explore...BUT...it's locked up pretty tight, you have to know somebody to get there....I'm lucky that my best friend works there. Like I said....if they ever make it back this way...contact me, if you know what and where to look...it's STILL got some pretty cool places to scope out.
