TIME CAPSULE FROM DEMOLISHED HALIFAX HOSPITAL OPENED
Halifax (CP) - History emerged from a tarnished copper box yesterday, reminding a white-haired architect of how a demolished hospital was once his grandfather's passion and financial saviour.
Sydney Philip Dumaresq, 59, sat quietly in a crowd of about 100 as Sister Donna Geernaert removed the contents of a 73-year odl time capsule.
The artifact was discovered last year under the cornerstone of the old Halifax Infirmary by a demolition crew tearing down the old building.
The capsule was buried under the five-storey building in 1933, at the height of the Depression and two wears after Sydney Perry Dumaresq finished his master work.
Yesterday, the grandson - the fourth in a remarkable lineage of architects - observed as Geernaert gingerly pulled out an old list of hospital staff, wrapped by a still-shining, vanilla-coloured bow.
Then came a tiny copper box, the lenght of a thumbnail, that held an unknown and mysterious religious relic.
A yellowing newspaper, dated June 25, 1931, also emerged, showing a front-page drawing of the hospital by Dumaresq's grandfather.
"My family often says the fees from the infirmary got us through the Depression" he said.
The cutline under the drawing notes that the building cost the then-staggering sum of $1 million to build.
"A million-dollar hospital" Dumaresq said with a chuckle. "Today that would get you half of one floor."

Very cool. There needs to be more locations from NS. I plan to upload some pics when I get them. Of course I am only a basic member so I probably can't see all the good places.
