Was that the farmhouse that was infront of that big trucking company's headquarters?
|
The one you're thinking of is a home in Cambridge (Fountain St. & Maple Grove Rd). Similar situation....knocked out to make way for Challenger Motor Freight's new headquarters and yard.
Mitchell Farmhouse was on PaisleY Rd. Guelph, just East of the big box Zehrs store. There was a short window of time when the Heritage Designation had a loop hole in it, and the developer knocked it down within a few days while they knew they could. http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=23623 Sadly I didn't get in before they flattened it, only got to scout

| | | We shall never forget the Bauer plant in Waterloo, it's sad, they're tearing it down now, and I pass it daily on the bus, \ Watching as it slowly disappears.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. |

WHAT? NO! *expletive deleted* So many fond memories... she loomed like a ghostly monolith on the horizon and gave shape to my darkest bleakest architectural fears. | | | The Acsys Technologies plant in Oshawa. This was once an important assembly plant to GM, and parts of it dated back a number of years. All that's left of it now are the two enormous smokestacks. And supposedly the Alger Printing building is going to be torn down due to the new arena being built in downtown Oshawa. I've also heard rumours that GM is thinking about shutting down Plant 2, for reasons unknown. And also, the former GM Battery Plant (a YMCA takes up a corner of the old property.) was torn down. Also, the Battery Plant that replaced the aforementioned has been shut down and awaits possible conversion into a paint shop for the GM trucks.

| | | When I was a kid my dad used to take me up to the former Midland railway station. Its one of my earliest memories. Then years latter I went to visit it, yet all i found was a lonely bulldozer and empty lot. It was torn down in early 1998.

Passion is dark. Darkness is passionate. Passsion is flattering. Flattery is passion. Passion is animal. Animal Passion is an album name... Animals are passionate. Paul McCartney got attacked by baby seals...Danny Williams gets a special Kudos for not killing Paul McCartney.
"Great Architecture has, but two enemies - water....and stupid men" I have encountered both. Feng my Shui!

| | | Another building I remember was a very old train station (dated back to the 1890s) that stood near Simcoe St. at Mill St. That was torn down in 1988. That really sucked because I was going to get photos of it. I snoozed and therefore I lost.
Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back. |

You know that reminds me, how much did GO Transit buy the Whitby Jail to make it a parking lot?
