One hell of a commute < on 10/14/2021 1:58 AM > | Reply with Quote
About a year ago I dipped down to Chicago to check out a recent UER DB entry, the Abandoned Metra Trains. Little information is available concerning their history, but the logo on several of the cars simply reads "AMT" with the words "Agence Métropolitaine de Transport" printed beneath it in smaller font. This is French for "Metropolitan Transport Agency," which a brief Google search reveals is Montreal's light commuter rail system.
I can only speculate how a subway train from Montreal ended up in Chicago, but if I had to guess I'd wager it was probably bought by the city and fell through the cracks when some paperwork got reshuffled and misplaced. Or perhaps it was mothballed when projected demand for light rail services failed to meet actual demand, and just steadily deteriorated over the years. Who can say?
"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

Good one! I instantly recognized the "Agenge métropolitaine de transport" (AMT) logo.
It's pretty crazy – though not exactly surprising – that our old commuter wagons would be chugged halfway across the continent... only to be tagged, scrapped and torched.
