"So what do you do for fun?" Oh I go in abandoned buildings and take pictures.

| | | I'm going to weigh in here. Do not take my advice, I'm not an electrician (yet, fingers crossed for my interview coming up in a few months) nor a doctor and this is for informational purposes only. Resistance is one of the fundamental properties of electricity. According to NIOSH, the resistivity of dry skin is between 100k to 600k ohms. 110 volts/100k ohms = 1.1 mA of current. Ohms law tells us this, which is voltage = current * resistance. I did some digging and came back with this page from an electric fence company https://www.agrise...ety-risk-to-humans To summarize their website, -Their electric fences put out 7000 volts -Pulses are for 1/300th of a second, spaced one second apart (giving someone time to react before getting shocked again) -Most units have a maximum current output of between 100-150 mA Back to ohm's law: 7000v/100k ohms = .07A or 70 mA. Now a page from Ohio State University describes the following: https://www.physic...fatal_current.html Above 10mA and below 100mA, you won't be able to let go, and breathing will become difficult. But the shock is only for 1/300th of a second so you won't really be affected by these. Since it's only 70mA you shouldn't go into V-FIB. So really, looking at the date touching an electric fence hurts but won't really harm you. That being said, if you have any sort of heart issue, or you touch the fence with your head you could be in severe danger. If there's an electric fence, find another way around it. Don't risk your life.
| Are we living a life that is safe from harm? Of course not, we never are. But that's not the right question. The question is, are we living a life that is worth the harm? |

| You think a taser feels bad? 7KV @70 MA will feel a lot worse. These electric fence specs are meant to repel large animals with thick fur not humans. If the grass or you are wet the shock hazard also increases a lot. If you're holding onto an earth grounded stake, pole, whatever and touch the fence... you'll get some religion. That said I think a lot of these fences are putting out a lot less voltage and current than they are rated due to leakage. Who knows?

| | | Posted by Cfourexplore First off, I want to say thanks for all your input and advice...I rather wonder myself if it's even electrified anymore, especially with the fallen over part. Didn't see/hear any sparking or electric sounds, but that could mean nothing. Eventually I'll return and check it out, but NO WAY am I going to attempt to climb it. I would think (but not sure) laying a piece of plywood or something over it would protect me...but of course it always comes back to: if it doesn't work, it could end very badly. I'll figure something out, even if that means letting it go...and I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again!
| Best to breach chain link fences at a gate, corner, or a fence post near a tree or telephone pole if you can. Go under if it's doable. Take the easiest, safest route. Be wary of one's that aren't tight, these are the most dangerous because it's easier to get hung up on them. The fence pole must be stable and the chain link well secured. Just the chain link alone can rip your leg or nut sack open. Been there, done it and barely got away with it. Ended up throwing myself off after being caught on it like a fish on a hook, landing on my back on the brush. Fortunately only my pants got shredded... fun times.
