| | | Posted by boxingkibbles96 Me and my cousin were exploring an farm that appeared to have been build in the mid-late 1800s. It was decrepid, overgown, but no vandalism, no scrapers, it was just a building that was on the verge of collapse from 150 years of mother nature. It was so far off the beaten path the we had to use atvs and dirtbikes the back of a farmers field, who didnt even know it was there. We load up the atv with some snacks, gas, and a few bottles of water and rolled out. By the time we got there its was maybe an hour later and the first thing we saw were wild hogs charging out of the house and directly at us. Pistol came in handy, but that story is for another thread. We make it to the house which is wide open. We found a whole lot of nothing as the door had been open for god knows how long. At one point my cousin leaned on a window and it shattered. Not tempered so we all know how pretty that was. Sliced him from wrist to elbow and caught his vein...OH SHIT!! Thinking hes gonna bleed out my shirt turn into a turnikit and use his shirt to put pressure on the bleeding, while this is happening we dont notice the wall where the window was had already caved, and the rest of the house was following quickly. We made it out as the domino effect took out the rest of the house. I got him on the atv and am tearing ass to the road, as I'm talking to the paramedics, the farmer pulls up, apparently all the dust made him think there was a fire. He made sure i got to the hospital, cousin wound up with 27 staples and months of rehab for his arm, but we all made it out and got a pretty cool story after that. Other than that its been the usual cops show up, and i hide. Only one anywhere near this i was exploring a drain as a kid and ran across a human skull
| Damn! For someone new at this, that is one of the more crazy sequence of events stories I’ve heard in a while. What did the farmer do or say after all of that? Sounds like y’all were lucky..,or unlucky (for your cousin in particular), but we’ll go with lucky!

Yes. Tasers, knives, stun batons are cheap at local pawn shops and on Amazon and can really come in handy. Tasers can be set off in air to scare animals away too. Look on Amazon, get a taser, like ten dollars, rechargable, and fun if you're drunk with friends.
| I learned hard way from asking on here before, all of the veterans will tell you one of 2 things 1. If you think you need a weapon, don't go 2. If you find your self in the situation that you need one, improvise. Rocks, concrete, your tripod, there are a lot of things that wont raise as much suspicion with law enforcement

| | | It's been forever since I posted a story here, and I've accumulated a few in the interim. Story 1: The summer before last, my buddy and I were checking out an enormous former textile mill, which sadly burned down later that year. Entry and exit required traversing a very steep hill from a public parking lot next to the mill's main gate and looping around the back, and most of the time doing this you were visible to anyone in the public areas who happened to look in the right spot (or so we thought). As we are leaving and descending this hill, a white pickup pulls up to the gate, and we freeze as the driver unlocks it and drives inside, out of sight. We keep climbing down, but then I see the truck loop back around, park right inside the gate, and the driver get out to lock it back up. I hiss at my buddy to freeze, but he doesn't hear me and keeps climbing, knocking some rocks down the hill in the process. Hearing this, the driver walks right up to the base of the cliff we were climbing down, and stares up at our position. Fortunately, the foliage must have been thick enough to shield us, because after a few minutes he goes back to the gate, locks up, gets in his truck and drives into the complex, giving us a chance to run/fall down the rest of the hill, get to the car and get outta Dodge. Story 2: The same buddy and I had just checked out two buildings of a former psychiatric center, and were poking around the exterior of the third, looking for an entrance. As we turn a corner, a security SUV turns the far corner and drives towards us. Knowing we're nicked, we put on our most innocent nerdy photographer faces and walk up to the car to talk to him. He gives us the usual speech of how the hospital is private property, and tells us to get lost. We comply, and drive to the other end of the campus, which has an entire additional abandoned complex, now under different ownership. So as we start walking around the largest building of this complex, the auditorium, the same guard drives up to us and beckons us over. I tell him that I thought this section was under different ownership, and he replies: "Nope. You're in trouble". Then he cracks a smile and tells me we're cool, this area isn't his responsibility, and that it's under the jurisdiction of the local police, who don't give a damn about it. And then he let us go about our business. That ended up being one of our favorite explores ever, especially considering we were about three minutes away from giving up on finding a way into the auditorium when we found a nice, obliging open window. This is getting pretty long, so I'll split it up.

| | | Story 3: Two weeks after the previous trip, the two of us and my buddy's girlfriend met up to check out another massive asylum complex. The campus had an active pavilion at the center that was used for weekly church services, so we parked inside of the perimeter fence, among the churchgoers. After we get our fill of the buildings (including an amazing autopsy theater), we return to our cars to leave. We then find that all of the worshipers are gone, and the gates are closed and locked. Oh fuck. So we drive over to the gate of an adjoining homeless shelter and walk around it to go try to plead with the security guards there to let us out. Just then, the lady in charge of the church services pulls up, and saint that she is, tells us that she has the key to the main gate and will let us out. As we leave, we thank her profusely, and she asks what were were doing there so late in the day. We tell her we were just taking pictures, and she gives us the most knowing look and says "mm-hmm", and wishes us a good night. Story 4: This winter, I was checking out a small farm in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. I parked alongside the road by the driveway, and walked onto to property with just my camera to scout it out. I found an open door around the backside of the farmhouse, and was walking back to my car to park someplace more inconspicuous and get my gear when a pickup truck turns down the driveway and starts driving towards me. Innocent face time. As the truck pulls up, I can see that there are at least three rifles on a rack in the back window. Oh poopy. Turns out, though, that the driver was the owner of the farm, and was just taking his grandson out to do some shooting. He told me that he had grown up on the property and still lived next door, and said that I was welcome to walk around and take as many pictures as I wanted. Very nice guy. I still haven't been inside that farmhouse, though. Thought it better not to betray his trust. Fortunately, all of my close calls have turned out to be very anticlimactic. It's a little amazing what we've gotten away with just by being friendly, open and (relatively) honest with people.

| | | Personally, because I have always gone alone, I carry when I go. Yes, it's a much bigger charge if I were to get caught, but I'm pretty fucking skinny, would MOST LIKELY be well outnumbered, so... Yeah... One of my biggest "oh shit" moments had nothing to do with anyone else though, it had to do with falling through a roof, and I was pretty much brand new at this stuff back then. I was at/in Rancho Los Amigos Mental Hospital in Downey, California, years ago before they had the place sealed up as well as they do now. In order to get into one of the main wards of the hospital (because the main entrance was heavily boarded), I had to go up some stairs into a burned out roof area. No biggie, right? Wrong. Not a good idea when you're practically brand new at this. I didn't know, at the time, to watch/find the beams on the rooftop that was to carry me to the ward from the burned area. So, casually walking like it's another sidewalk, or street, I fell through the roof and was only saved by the rough surface when I was at the shoulders and my hands were able to grip the surface. A bloody mess. It was a good 3 story drop into what used to be the dining hall. Definitely learned my lesson from that.

| I hope for your sake you have a CCW permit. Carrying while trespassing, permit or no, is mucho stupid, but carrying without a permit is extraordinarily stupid. And carrying while trespassing without a permit in California, of all places, has to be some kind of world-record setting instance of stupidity.

| | | It was tonight, I climbed a crane. It was like -7°C and snowing. The police station is next to the construction site. It was wild open, there's just the crane standing in the middle of nothing. Everytime I hear a siren, I always panic. Always thought is for me even is dark. I don't know why I panic now but not when I climb a crane in the middle of the day ahah. It is my first winter crane and I didn't bother to put better gloves and the crane is made all in steel, so everytime I put my hand in the ladder, my finger gets colder, to a point that I didn't feel my finger anymore. But I still managed to get to the top. I expect a better view, but I still had some inspiration. I try to be careful because if I misstep, I could fall. It was really very slippery. And thats exactly what happens to me that night. I was really dumb, I didn't saw that coming at all. I walked into a inclined steel, I fall and half of my body was in the void. I grabbed the barrier in front of me. And this is what save my life. If it wasn't there, I will probably fall to my death. Also my Kodak still alive. It's still worth it, I got some great photo.

| | | New story time! Our group had just left an incredible place, and decided to swing by an abandoned school not terribly far away. I had been to this school twice already. The entrance involved scaling the facade of the school to a small broken window. Then you have to squeeze through the window and climb down on the other side. Once one person gets in, there is a door that opens from inside so everyone else can just stroll in. I had already done it twice in broad daylight with no issue, so I didn't think anything of it when I started climbing up. We spent about a half hour hanging out in the auditorium, smoking and eating lunch while our friend who had never seen the place was taking photos. There were some beautiful pieces of plaster that had fallen off the ceiling that my friends wanted to take so we all walked back to the door to put the stuff down. My one friend spins around, looking very concerned, and says "Cops!! There are cops at the door!". I looked down and sure enough I see two uniformed figures outside unlocking the door. I knew there was a second way out through the basement, so we all turned and booked it for the stairs as the two cops walked in. In no time we are at the window, piling out and shutting it behind us. I went to push up the metal cover that was over us so we could all climb up and out of this pit we were in. It wouldn't budge. Frantically I used all my might to try and break the spot welds by pushing up on all the covers. No dice. Last time the police stormed a school after me I had to spend 13 hours playing cat and mouse with them and their dog before we escaped. None of us were about to repeat that. As we sat mostly silent in this garbage pit, I noticed a spider the size of a quarter climbing up my friends back. Thankfully she didn't have a trace of arachnaphobia, and just quietly let the little guy make his way up and back to the wall. After an hour of hiding we got fed up. We decided by now the police would probably be on the upper floors of the school, so we decided to take a chance. I squeezed the dab pen I had on me and my friends bowl through the cover so I could retrieve them from the street once we got out, and in we went. We popped inside, listened, and heard nothing. Cautiously we stepped through one of the gymnasiums and right to the stairs we came down. As we crossed the gym I was hyperfocused on making it out. As a result I wasn't listening to my surroundings much. My friends were though, and all three of them heard the officers in the gym directly next to us. We didn't really waste any time getting back to the door we came in, since it would stand to reason the gym we were in was their next stop. Remarkably they didn't have an officer posted up at the door, so we popped out to a nice, quiet, sunny street. I handed one of my friends my car keys and told them to drive around the block while I retrieved the bowl and pen I had hidden out back. As the police continued to search the building, I casually walked behind the school, grabbed the items, and we left. Timing was key in each move in this story. If we hadn't moved when we did in the first place, we never would have seen the cops come in. If we didn't move from our hiding spot right when we did, chances are good we would have been found, or we would have walked right up to the cops while trying to leave. Kinda funny when you think about it. Stay safe out there everyone!
