Abandoned Day Care/Former Nurses Residence < on 10/5/2017 2:19 AM > | Reply with Quote
This now abandoned day care center was built in 1920 and was originally used as a nurses residence for a nearby hospital. The hospital and all other buildings in the area are now gone, but this building remains.
Property ownership documents date as far back as 1798. Once a vast piece of farmland the land was donated in the early 1900’s for a large medical facility.
When no longer needed for housing nurses it was it was used as a high school through the 70’s and 80’s. Following this, it was re-purposed for use as a daycare and nursery school.
The building has been designated with heritage protection, so while it now sits empty, vacant and decaying there is some hope in knowing the building will hopefully one day be used again.
I explored this building in the fall of 2017 after a handful of attempts to explore it were not possible due to the well placed window boards, locked doors and alarm system.

Very cool Freak! Number 3 is my favorite. Though I think it's pretty funny that there's still rolls of toilet paper in their holders in a few different shots.

I was going to say that I don't think I see any old screw holes or indication of removed dividers in #10... but then I realized the overhead cupboards made it even more so. Weird! But I guess maybe when you work in a daycare, a single worker might be expected to have to service more than one kid on the potty at once? I sure don't remember crapping while high-fiving the kid next to me! Gotta love the differing heights though; Goldilocks-and-the-3-Bears-toilets.
1798 - that's impressive. The woodwork (especially on the ceiling) in #3 is a highlight for me.

Someone on Instagram posted this place a few months ago and said they had set off an alarm so they bailed... Guess it's open and non-alarmed now? Awesome! Thanks for posting.

Looks like the toilet in #12 is just kind of sitting out in the open, too. Weird.

Ya, I know the video you're talking about. The place still has power and the alarm panel is still lit up but I pressed my luck and stayed around 45 mins or so and there was no response.
I'd been stopping by somewhat frequently for quite some time, this time I just got lucky. I'd say it's worth a visit if in the area.
Post by Charlemagnet Ive had my eyes on this place forever awesome!!
Now's your chance!

This building sits on Land donated by the family who the building is named after. (I actually sit in Lodge with that family's descendant and they are pretty pissed off at the state of the facility). @Freaktography not all the hospital buildings were demolished, if you drive up the road a little you will see the remaining structures that still stand (1924 - 1967 era), only the Infirmary that sat next to it and its outbuildings were demolished. The remaining buildings are too now under threat of demolition as the City has no care for history that isn't directly down town.
I did my Honours thesis on This Hospital if you have any questions hit me up. It was/is a beautiful site that I really wish was going to be preserved.

Posted by SaladKing Is that a square toilet at the right of #11?
No, that is a utility Basin that is used to wash bed pans, empty puke bowls, fill buckets etc. they are a common site in hospitals built prior to the 1970s and haven't been renovated.

I just visited this place in July/August 2019. I actually stumbled upon it by accident, me and a friend were going for a walk and low and behold this place came out of nowhere! But, deterioration is by far worse now than it was 2 years ago. I was afraid to be upstairs for long due to the floor being real soft and in rough shape.
